PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
“…the rising Lord carries us with him as he goes.”
Peter Steele S.J., ‘Bread for the Journey’
Dear Parents and Carers
Today, our Year 2 students led the school in a reflection on Easter Sunday. It was beautifully told and told in such a way that it led us all into a deeper reflection on the Resurrection of Jesus. Of of all the things that we know about Jesus, Easter is the most important, and it is the determining factor in why we have our school, or why we have Churches, or why we call ourselves Christians. Equally important, as the quote above states, is that Jesus’ resurrection in turn brings about our own resurrection. Physical death, and all the small deaths that can assail us all in life – death of a dream, of a relationship, of hope and vitality – do not have to have the final word. Year Two’s reflection today reminded us that God’s love for us brings out new opportunities for life and love, especially when we least expect it. My thanks to Mary de Smet, Nic Marsham and Sarah Walsh, and all our students in Year 2, for their beautifully told reflection.
Catalyst
Two days ago, we had a pupil free day and spent much of the day in Professional Learning workshops. We learnt about the Science of Reading and High Impact Teaching Practices. Both presentations were based on the science of learning and founded in research that demonstrates and explicitly states the ideal conditions and methods under which children learn. It was a very good day and we will continue to explore ways in which we can enact many of the principles of practice that Monday’s professional learning outlined.
Giants
This Thursday, the school has an in-school presentation: the Giants Science Show. The children will have the opportunity, in smaller grade groups, to experience some live, interactive science, similar to some of the exhibits and experiences that can be had, for example, at Questacon. It should be engaging, fun and educative. My thanks to Sean Rutledge for coordinating the visit of the Giants.
Enrolment Period
The official Enrolment Period for all Catholic Schools begins next week, and lasts for 3 weeks. We have begun our Open Days and held our first one for this term today, which was well attended. The remaining open days are on Tuesday April 27, Wednesday May 5 and Monday May 10. All times are from 9 am - 11 am. There is also an Information Night on Tuesday April 27, at 6 p.m., in the STEM room. All new and prospective parents are very welcome. Interest in Sts Peter and Paul has been very good and our enrolments for Kindergarten 2022 are growing.
Cross Country Carnival
This Friday we are holding our annual Cross Country Carnival. Unlike last year, we are able to hold the day at Edison Park and it will be a great day for the students. My thanks to Mary de Smet for all of her hard work in organising and coordinating the carnival.
Year 6 Leadership Day
With the separation of Grades 5/6 into two separate grades, we have the opportunity to provide our Year 6 students with some special leadership opportunities, and to highlight their role as leaders of the school. They are having four special Leadership Days this year, and Friday week sees the second of these days take place. The children are having a day with BFirm and it promises to be a great deal of fun, whilst also teaching the students about important qualities such as resilience and collaboration. My thanks to our two Year 6 teachers, Paul Jenkins and Sarah Kennelly, for all of their excellent work in preparing the days. https://bfirm.com.au/
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
