PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
“What each of us loves shows in the heart. Our best words come from the heart to reach others in a heart-to-heart conversation. In the heart there stirs the basic passion for existence and belonging, for to live humanely is to have a heart.”
Fr Tony Kelly, The Sacred Heart Revisited
Dear Parents and Carers
Last night, I had the good fortune to be present at the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Parish of the Transfiguration (Curtin), which saw a large number of children from our Year 6 class, and the Year 6 students at Holy Trinity Primary School, make their Confirmation. In his homily, Monsignor John Woods spoke about the current G7 World Leaders summit, in England. In his homily (and again in last week’s Parish Bulletin), Fr John said that, “The aim [of the summit] reflects the call of Pope Francis to build the future, not just to prepare for it. The former is about a shared commitment, the latter focuses on self-interest.”
Last night, the children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation took a step towards this journey to create the future and I am very proud of them. The best future possible, to borrow the metaphor quoted above, will only come about if we live humanely, from a heart that is moulded by being in a relationship with Jesus. Our best selves, and therefore the best future possible, will come from such a relationship. The children confirmed last night were Emily S, Aaron, Josie, Gill, Matthew, William, Lucy, Stella and Cedric. Tonight, we continue the celebration, with the following children making their Confirmation: Zarrie, Greta, Emily B, Sarah, Kira, Ciara, Ben, Tom, Michael, Eva, Marly, Henry, Oscar, Nick, Patrice, Kate, Andrea and Hannah. My thanks to Paul Jenkins, Sarah Kennelly and Fron Garrett-Rumba, for their excellent work in preparing the children. My thanks too, to Monsignor John Woods and all parents for their support, faith and encouragement.
School Photos
A reminder that this week, we are holding our school photos. All students are to wear their full winter uniform, not their sports uniform. Class photos will be taken outside (weather permitting), with individual photos taken inside.
My Body My Life
Next week, Catholic Care will be running an information session called ‘My Body, My Life’ for boys and girls in Years 5 and 6. ‘My Body, My Life’ addresses changes the body goes through during adolescence.
Sts Peter and Paul Feast Day
Friday week – the last day of the school term – is our annual feast day. It is a day of celebration for the school. All students will attend Mass in the morning at the Sts Peter and Paul Church next to the school. We will then have a sausage sizzle at lunch, and the final session of the day will see the children in an activity group, run by one of the teachers in the school. It is always a great deal of fun and a particularly enjoyable way to finish the school term. My thanks to Fron Garrett-Rumba, our Religious Education Coordinator, for all of her work in coordinating the day.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal
