PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

“We must foster hospitable hearts in order to foster hospitality to refugees.”

Fr Andrew Hamilton, SJ

Last Sunday we celebrated Refugee Sunday. In the bulletin of the Parish of the Transfiguration, Fr John Woods referenced an article by the Jesuit priest Andrew Hamilton SJ, in which he wrote about the importance of having a hospitable heart, as a way of laying the foundations of a hospitable community/society/country. As a school community, Sts Peter and Paul strives to be a community of hospitality – a school where all are welcome. Hospitality comes naturally when we see all people as fully human, as fully our equals. Our faith demands nothing less. The full article is well worth reading and will not take long. It can be found via this link: https://www.pray.com.au/the-encouragement-of-hospitality/

My Body, My Life

Yesterday, staff from Catholic Care visited the school and spoke to the Year 6 children about the changes that come about because of adolescence. The visit provided fruitful opportunities to discuss the emotional challenges that come with physical changes to the body. My thanks to Sean Rutledge and our Year 6 teachers for coordinating the visit.

STEM Showcase

On Monday, our Year 6 students had the opportunity to display their learning in STEM over the last semester. The students have made some great strides in their learning and created assistive devices to aid people with physical impairments to access computer games. The showcase was very impressive. My thanks to Sean Rutledge, our STEM coordinator, and our Year 6 teachers, Paul Jenkins and Sarah Kennelly, for their great work too. Most importantly, I thank our wonderful students, of whom I am very proud, for their great efforts with their work. Our STEM showcase continued today, with our very clever Year 5 students also displaying their learning, including some extraordinary creations using the 3D printers. Again, my thanks to Sean and the teachers, and the wonderful students and their creativity.

Author Visit

This Thursday, we welcome children’s author Cameron Seltzer to the school. Cameron will talk to the children about his writing and the creative processes he goes through to create his stories. It will be a privilege to host him. My thanks to our excellent librarian, Amanda Basedow, for hosting his visit.

Sts Peter and Paul Feast Day

This Friday, we are celebrating our Sts Peter and Paul Feast Day. We are beginning the celebrations with a lunch which will include a sausage sandwich for all students,  followed by a whole school Mass at 12.30pm, in our Church. After recess, the students will be vertically streamed (e.g., in multi-age groups) and will be with different teachers for some fun activities. It is a great way to celebrate our feast day and to bring the school term to an end.

3-6 Disco Redo

Due to a blackout at the 3-6 disco we are going to run the last part of it at Lunchtime Thursday of Week 1 in the hall. We will give out our major dancing prizes during this time. Thanks for your understanding.

Term 3

A reminder that the first day of Term 3, Monday July 12th, is a pupil free day. Students return to school on Tuesday, July 13th.

Have a wonderful holiday with your children. I look forward to seeing everyone again on the 13th of July.

Best wishes

Cameron Johns
