GARDEN CLUB AND COOKING
Garden Club/Kitchen Garden/Curriculum Update
Thank you for the grant Landcare! Due to the generosity from Landcare, our fabulous Garden Club will be building, planting and looking after an orchard. We started our orchard by planting another plum tree on National Tree Planting Day.
From an empty hole dug by dedicated garden clubbers – we have filled it with another tree that will help our small part of the world contribute to the bigger picture of sustainability and looking after our earth. We had already planted a plum tree in 2019 on National Tree Planting Day, so now it has a friend.
Also, plans have been drawn up for the complete orchard which will include more fruit trees, plus landscaping and an irrigation system. There is also enough money in this generous grant to buy more equipment (such as garden gloves to fit little hands) for our Garden Club. Very exciting…
In the kitchen and classroom the students continue to learn about healthy eating as well as sustainability. The carrot tops are growing well and hopefully these can be planted in our garden to grow into mature carrots. In the classroom students are finishing their posters to showcase the five food groups on the Australian Guide to Health Eating Plate and why sometimes foods are not for every day and water is an absolute must daily.
