PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Carers

Book Week Parade

Due to the sudden plunge last term into lockdown and remote learning, we postponed Book Week and our Book Week parade until this term. Happily, we held our Book Week parade today and it was a great success. Using appropriate COVID-safe practices, the students paraded through the hall and onto the stage, one class at a time, and then returned to their classrooms. The students were videoed and the images have been shared with the parent community. K – 2 and 3 – 6 students also watched a literacy performance in class, on screen. My thanks to Mrs. Amanda Basedow for coordinating the day and to Mr. Paul Jenkins, for being the MC for the students for their Book Week parade.

Socktober

This Friday November 5th we will be holding a Socktober shootout to raise money for Catholic Mission. Each year Catholic Mission raises money for the needs of others around the world. This year Catholic Mission is focusing on the needs of children in Thailand. On Friday, students will participate in a soccer goal shoot-out competition with their class and will get to use a Sockball (a ball made from plastic bags), so they can experience how children around the world play soccer. Students are asked to donate money to participate in the shootout, which will raise money for the Good Shepherd Sisters Kindergarten which provides free quality early childhood education.

Donations can be made via the Qkr App. We thank you so much, for your generosity to this cause.

Steps to make a donation:

  • Open the Qkr app
  • Select Sts Peter and Paul
  • Scroll down to ‘school payments’ and select

Reports and Class Lists

We are soon to enter the second half of the term, and necessarily the thoughts of the school and the teachers turn to the tasks that are essential for a smooth transition to the following year. The teachers are currently preparing class lists for 2022. Like this year, we will have 13 classes in 2022, with two classes for each grade and three classes for Grade 3/4. The teachers will prepare the class lists keeping many factors in mind, ensuring the classes are as balanced as possible. Importantly, as part of this process, students will be consulted and asked to name three friends with whom they would like to be placed, for 2022. The school guarantees one of the friends. More friends than 1 may be included. If you have any concerns over friendship dynamics, please email me, or your child’s teacher/s. Requests for individual teachers will be unable to be met.

Teachers are also in the process of gathering assessment and beginning the report writing process. Reports will again be delivered online via Compass, as they were last Semester. Due to COVID and Remote Learning, there has been a disruption to the normal amount of assessment that can be managed. Teachers will report on Maths, English and Religious Education, with one other subject included. Spanish and The Arts will also receive a grade. There will be no comments this semester. In place of comments, there will be Parent/Teacher interviews in Week 10, on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week. Reports will be made available on Compass in week 11.

Kindergarten Orientation Day and Information Night

A reminder that Kindergarten Orientation, for all new 2022 Kindergarten Students, is taking place on Tuesday, November 16. Parents will bring their children to the foyer. From there, the students will be escorted to one of the Kindergarten classrooms and spend a ½ day with one of the 2022 Kindergarten teachers. At 6pm on the same day, in the hall, the school will be hosting an Information Night for all parents of 2022 Kindergarten students.

Have a wonderful week with your families.

Best wishes
