PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Carers

Catalyst: The Writing Revolution

Catalyst is a program that is a Catholic system-wide initiative, designed to introduce some professional development to all Catholic teachers and leaders, in the area of the science of learning and direct instruction. We began our own school journey last year with the introduction of InitialLit, a K – 2 phonics program. This year, balancing the ledger a little in the upper grades, teachers from Grades 3 – 6 are participating in a program called ‘The Writing Revolution’. It is closely aligned with the thinking found in the science of learning and favours an explicit and direct instructional approach to the teaching of writing. Teachers from Grades 3 – 6 begin their journey today.

First Eucharist

Last year, our then Grade 4 students prepared for their First Eucharist. Due to COVID restrictions at the time, students were unable to make their First Eucharist. As a result, the reception of the Sacrament has continued into this term. On Sunday February 27, students who have made their First Eucharist will have a celebration Mass at our parish Church, the Church of the Transfiguration. Our students will join with the students from Holy Trinity, Curtin, in what will be a very special occasion.

Chief Minister's Reading Challenge

Our annual involvement in the Chief Minister's Reading Challenge begins in two weeks, with all boys and girls invited to take up the challenge of reaching the reading target set this year. It is a great initiative and our students and school always does very well. My thanks to our wonderful school librarian, Amanda Basedow, for supporting this.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Term 1 of each year sees the school hold parent/teacher interviews. This year, we are holding them in Week 6. It serves as a great opportunity for parents and teachers to check in with each other to see how the students are progressing and if there are any concerns that need addressing. Bookings can be made online and information will be going home next week (Week 4) that explains the booking process.

Have a wonderful week with your families.

Best wishes
