PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week we celebrated Grandparents’ Day. It was a great occasion, and one in which we welcomed back, for the first time in a long time, a large number of visitors inside the school building. Grandparents had the opportunity to visit their grandchildren’s classrooms and then enjoy lunch outside with their grandchildren. There was a great deal of energy and good will in the school. My thanks to our REC, Steph Burns, for coordinating the day, and to all staff for their great work and support.

Year 6 Camp

Our Year 6 students have been on camp this week. They left on Wednesday and arrive back this afternoon. It was a very enjoyable experience for all concerned. Along with Luke Gubler, Sarah Kennelly and Katie McGregor, I joined our staff and the students for three excellent days. The students were very well behaved and were a credit to themselves. I was very proud of the way they worked together and supported each other. My thanks to Sarah, Luke and Katie for their support of our students.

Chris Higgins Visit

Next week, over two days, Chris Higgins will join us in the school. Chris is CE’s Maths Officer, and he works with all 56 schools around Maths strategies and skills. He will work in all classrooms over two days, modelling good, ‘hands-on’ Maths lessons, which make effective use of concrete materials.

Student Representative Council

Our SRC is made up students from Years 3 – 6, and all members were voted on the SRC by their peers. They have identified the need to have a ‘Buddy Bench’ to assist any child who may be experiencing social isolation on the playground. To that end, they are organising and hosting a ‘Pyjama Day’ next Friday, the 28th of October. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation. The money raised will be matched by the school, and all funds will go towards the purchase of a ‘Buddy Bench.’ A great initiative and organised completely by our SRC.

2023 Class Lists

Although still early in Term 4, teachers will soon begin the process of compiling class lists for 2023. The process is necessarily involved, and a number of factors need to be considered. Students will be asked to nominate their preferences for classmate, and parents will have an opportunity to be part of that process, with their children. Here is a link which can take you to a ‘Friendship Four’ conversation.

Have a wonderful week with your families.
