Welcome to a new year of learning. A big thank you to the school community for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to meeting more members of the community at the Parent Information Night next week.

Opening School Mass – 9th February, 12:00 noon

On Thursday 9th February at 12:00 noon, we will be celebrating our Opening School Mass for 2023 in the school hall. All classes will be attending Mass, and all parents and carers are warmly invited to attend.

Sunday Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16, Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year A

Salt of the earth, light of the world.

This Sunday’s gospel passage is one that is commonly quoted and well known. Jesus says “‘You are the salt of the earth…Today, when we describe a person as being the ‘salt of the earth’ it’s generally meant in a way that says the person is hard working, straight talking and pretty down to earth. It’s usually meant as a compliment but sometimes this can come across as a bit condescending when used inappropriately. When Jesus tells the disciples that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world he is really saying, ‘You are to be the salt of the earth; you are to be the light of the world.’ It is more of a directive than an affirmation of them.

To be salt of the earth and light of the world means to be the one who puts their hand up and steps forward to speak for, work for and act for those who are the least in this world. (Adapted from Greg Sunter)

Staff Spirituality Retreat Day

On Tuesday 24th January, all staff members attended a Staff Spirituality Day at the Parish Centre in Curtin. The day was inspired by Pope Francis’ call for Synodality. Synodality is about walking together in a shared search for Christ in scripture, prayer, and common life. We used the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-3) biblical passage to inspire, to inform and to nurture our relationship with God and each other.
