OUR KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM

This week we had so much fun in the garden, kitchen and classroom.

We picked tomatoes, made entries for the Canberra Show and looked after our fast growing plants.

The Year 1 and 2’ students made jam and lemon butter as well as biscuits with icing and decorations. Their challenge was to make sheep and fruit biscuits for the Canberra Show. They looked awesome!

In the classroom the children were learning about the fruit group and why it’s important to include the food group in what you eat every day. The children brainstormed as many fruits as they could think of and then found out why it’s so important to have a rainbow of fruit in our diets. This is so we get as many vitamins and minerals as possible. Fun fact: a pomegranate can hold up to 100 seeds! Yum…

At garden club we still had a fabulous garden crew even though we missed our Year 6 leaders. Never-the-less we watered, weeded and harvested tomatoes and heirloom zucchini. They looked very cool and became another entry in the show. Cross fingers that we place.
