PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear SPP families,

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to use their power, their words and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us.

When it comes to reconciliation, we can all contribute to collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. I offer this prayer, adapted from Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Victoria.

God of Love and Justice,

We pray that our leaders act in the interests of all the people in this land, that they walk the talk of reconciliation.

We pray for those who still suffer sadness because of the government policies of the past. May they be healed by us walking the talk of your Gospel command to love.

God of Love and justice, help us to learn the message of justice taught by Pope Francis who has instructed us to go out. Go out and share... go out and interact with our brothers and sisters, go out and share, go out and ask.

Lord, come walk with us towards peace and reconciliation.

 Amen

 School-wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB)

You may remember we began a School-wide Positive Behaviour project last term. This involved a group of eight students from Kinder to Year 6 working together to re-vision and re-write our school rules. The industrious students, supported by Mr Gereis, Mrs Halis-Pratt, Mrs DeJongh and Ms Gill, decided they wanted the expectations for behaviour to be positively phrased and fair for all. They did a brilliant job.

Yesterday, our School-wide Positive Behaviour teaching team spent the day working with Tegan Ingold, our wonderful Community Council chair, to continue to define our student-written Positive Behaviour Expectations. I thank Tegan, Amanda DJ, Josh, Lisa and Sam for their generosity, wisdom, and enthusiasm. Here is a sneak peek at the rules revamp:

At Sts Peter and Paul, we are all SainTS - Succeeding Together Safely.

Succeeding

Succeeding means trying your best, having courage, and embracing challenges.

Together

Together means welcoming, supporting, and valuing everyone.

 Safely

Safely means responding with respect.

The next step in this project will be to work once again with our student team to develop images, actions, and common language to promote a shared understanding of these expectations here at Sts Peter and Paul school. Our official SWPB launch later this year will be accompanied by explicit class teaching programs and ‘Try This at Home’ suggestions for our parent community.

Tomorrow’s Athletics Carnival

We are looking forward to our annual Athletics Carnival tomorrow, Thursday, June 1st. We are very grateful to Miss Walsh and Mr Gubler who have been working hard to plan an action-packed day for all of our students. We look forward to seeing many of you at Woden Athletic Park, cheering on our athletes and supporting this wonderful event. I know Miss Walsh is incredibly pleased with the number of parents volunteering to help. Thank you for generously giving your time to support this event. There are plently of spots in the parent race!

Tell Them From Me - Parent Survey

The Tell Them From Me® Survey is an evaluation system for measuring student engagement, well-being, classroom climate, and other factors known to affect learning outcomes. Information is captured from students, parents and teachers to inform school policy and practice.

Please take the time to reflect upon and answer the survey questions. Based on this survey data, we can make changes to help improve our students’ experience at school. The survey window is open until 9 June 2023 (Term 2, Week 7)

Visit – Director of Catholic Education

On Friday, Mr Ross Fox, the Director of Catholic Education, visited our beautiful school. He was treated to a tour by two of our student leaders, William and Anna, who did a wonderful job showcasing our school. Mr Fox enjoyed his morning and was impressed by all he saw in our thriving learning community.

Compass Notifications

You may notice a new attendance feature in our Compass app. If a child is marked absent on a class roll without explanation, parents will be sent an automated Compass notification seeking an absence approval. Class rolls are usually marked by 9:15am.

If your child arrives at school late, please sign them in at the front office on our Compass kiosk.

Hats off

A reminder that the July is 'Hats Off' month. Students are not requird to wear a hat when outside.

Flamenco Workshop

On Friday 2 June, Year 4 will participate in a Flamenco Workshop. Thank you to Senora Johnson for organising this fun  activity.

Thank you for your warm wishes and encouragement as I step into the shoes of our fearless leader for the remainder of the term. I am very well supported by our outstanding staff, especially Veronica Hall, Fron Garrett and Amanda Basedow. We wish Cameron a wonderful and well-deserved break.

Best wishes for a hope-filled week,
