Sunday Gospel: Luke 14:25-33, Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year C
This week’s Gospel is a hard one to hear. It challenges us, as followers of Jesus, to realise that discipleship has a cost. Jesus acknowledges that it’s very easy to go with the crowd when the miracle-worker is in town and gaining popularity, but have these followers considered the consequences? Jesus speaks of the utter commitment needed to be a disciple. Far from promoting discipleship, his words actually sound discouraging. ‘Take up your Cross’ is hardly a caption that would sell Christianity to many people. But this is just the point. Jesus isn’t after half-hearted followers. He wants ‘all or nothing’ Christians, people who know what they are taking on and give a whole-hearted commitment.
Father’s Day Breakfast
Last Friday we celebrated Father’s Day as a community with a breakfast in the Kindergarten courtyard, followed by a prayer celebration led by 2M. Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of the event. We hope all the Fathers in our community had a lovely Father’s Day.
