PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Carers

Last week, we had a number of sporting events, which saw all of the children involved in at least one event. Wednesday last week saw Sts Peter and Paul hold its annual Cross Country Carnival, which was a great success and very good day. My thanks to Luke Gubler, for coordinating the carnival, and to the many parents and all staff for their support and time. On Thursday, close to 40 of our students from Grades 2 – 6 participated in a regional Futsal Competition. My thanks to the many parents who coached or managed the teams, and I would particularly like to thank Natasha Fenton, who gave up many lunchtimes to come into the school and coach children, and who assisted Luke Gubler in the organization of our involvement. Congratulations to our Year 2 students for their undefeated winning streak! On Friday, we had many students compete in the South Weston Regional Swimming Competition. Congratulations to all of our competitors and to Luke for his assistance and organization.

Student Leadership

Student leadership is a feature of Sts Peter and Paul, at all grade levels, particularly in Year 6. Indie G, in Year 6, recently sold a number of her excellent homemade jewelry. All money raised went to cancer research and was donated to charity. A wonderful example of generosity and service – thank you Indie for being an example to us all.

Enrolment Period

The official enrolment period for systemic Catholic schools (which includes Sts Peter and Paul) is in May, and our Open Days are from 9am – 11am on May 7th, 14th and 21st. Our Information Night is on Tuesday May 7th at 6pm, in the school hall. Included in this newsletter are the slides that Luke Gubler used when presenting, some weeks ago, an Information Night detailing all of the amazing leadership opportunities that our school particularly offers from Grades 3 – 6. A reminder too that Marist, in conversation with CE, has guaranteed a place for in Year 7 for all boys graduating from our local Catholic schools. I am very confident that Sts Peter and Paul offers an excellent education for all students from K – 6, and in allowing for growing student maturity and growing capacity, particularly offers valuable leadership opportunities for our Grades 3 – 6 students. I would welcome an opportunity to discuss this with any existing or potential Sts Peter and Paul parents. If you would like to meet, please email me directly at Cameron.johns@cg.catholic.edu.au, or contact the front office on 6281 1932, to make a time for a meeting.

Easter

Last week, our Easter celebrations culminated in Year 2 retelling the Resurrection, and leading the school community in a deep reflection on the new life that Easter brings. Year 2 reminded us that we are ‘Easter people’, and people who live with embodied hope. My thanks to our Year Two students and teachers who led us so well in this reflection.

Disco

My thanks too to the School Community Council, who with generosity of spirit and heart, provided a wonderful night for all of our students last Friday night. Our K – 6 students enjoyed an excellent school disco and had a great deal of fun. My thanks especially to Daniel Muller, one of our dads, who selflessly gave of his time and resources, in providing the music for the disco. My thanks to Daniel, and to members of the Community Council, and to the broader parent community, for their support.

Student Free Day: First Day of Term 2

Monday April 29th is the first day of Term 2 and a pupil-free day. The first day for all students is Tuesday April 30th. All Catholic schools are following this format. Please see me if you have any questions.

My thanks to the staff for an excellent term and for all of their hard work over these last 11 weeks, and more; and my thanks to the parent body for the wonderful support of staff and students. I look forward to seeing all of our students and families on Tuesday April 30th.

Best wishes
