PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Carers,
On Saturday I had the pleasure of watching several of our teams compete in the last Catholic Schools Netball carnival. As always, I was blown away by the attitude and sportsmanship that our students displayed. It was also great to see so many parents in attendance which is indicative of the strong community spirit that our school is known for.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of introducing Mr Cameron Johns, our Principal from the beginning of 2020, around our school. He spent a couple of hours meeting staff and students. He is very excited to come on board with us next year. There will be opportunities for parents to meet Cameron early in 2020.
Unfortunately, we have had several incidents of vandalism around the school in the last week with a number of windows being broken. If you see any suspicious activity after hours please email me directly or call the Police on 131 444. We will have some CCTV installed this week as a deterrent.
Blessing and Opening
Next Wednesday, we will be holding a blessing and opening of our renovation project from 11:30 am which will be followed by a matinee performance of our Stage 3 production. I warmly invite all parents to attend.
The following day our Stage 3 students will perform another matinee for Malkara and Southern Cross residents, followed by a final show for their parents and family at 7 pm in the hall.
Thank you to the RUC!
As you know, we had a very successful Trivia night at the end of last term. There was a great turnout by the community, and much fun was had by all. A very special thank you to the Scanlan family, who own and operate the RUC, for hosting the night and also their very generous donation of the venue, and much of the food and prizes. Without their help the night would not have been possible.
Netball Carnival
On Thursday, we will be presenting certificates at our awards assembly to the students who participated in the Netball carnival over the weekend.
Boorowa Netball and Touch Footy Carnival - Friday
We are sending several teams to the Boorowa Netball and Touch Football Carnival this year. Mr Kucher, Mrs Portoleisi, Mrs Arranz, Ms De Smet and Mrs Mortimer will accompany approximately seventy students who are participating. We wish the teams, managers, coaches and umpires all the best for a day of fun and competition.
Grandparents Day
Next Monday we will welcome grandparents and grand friends from our community for our annual celebration of grandparents. All parents are very welcome to join us. Please see Mrs Burn’s article for more information.
School Disco
We are keenly anticipating our Term 4 Disco that will be held on Friday, November 8. Our DJ Jungle Jerry, also known as Kenzo's dad, will be back to bust some tunes in our hall. With talent like this in store, our disco promises to be a memorable night.
Tickets are available on Qkr!. Sessions will be the same as last year:
6.15pm - 7.00pm Kinder 1,2
7.15pm - 8.15 pm Years 3-6
Classes for 2020
Shortly we will begin the process of examining class lists for 2020. As you can imagine, this is quite a complex process, and I have included some of the considerations teachers as professionals take into account when looking at placements. When forming the class lists the following factors are taken into consideration:
- Gender;
- Special Needs;
- Work Habits;
- Cognitive ability;
- Friendships;
- Behaviour;
- Health considerations;
- Religion (to assist in achieving a balance between classes, especially in Sacramental years) and
- Common names.
Ideally, we aim for an equal spread of both positive and challenging characteristics. Where practical, parental requests based on educational concerns will be considered. Parents who wish to discuss particular concerns regarding the placement of their children in particular classes should put their concern in writing and address it to the Principal by Friday of Week 4 (Term 4). All Parent concerns will be seriously considered during the process. It must be clearly understood, however, that no definite guarantees can be given regarding parental requests.
Blessings and best wishes,
Sean Rutledge
