PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Carers
“A great memory does not make a mind, any more than a dictionary is a piece of literature.”
― John Henry Newman
As many parents may know, the Canonized Cardinal John Henry Newman was recently made a Doctor of the Church. To be made a Doctor of the Church means that the man or woman in question has left behind a significant body of writing that the Church considers to be highly significant in its reflections upon God and Christian living. John Henry Newman is of particular interest to us, as he was, at heart, an educator, and often wrote for and about education, and teachers, and what it means to grow in knowledge of reality and of God. He stands in a great line of Christian writers, such as St Augustine, CS Lewis, and following Newman, Bernard Lonergan SJ, in that they were all people who could give voice to the inner life and what it might mean to be a person converted to the truth. Newman remains a great role model for us all.
Feast of the Assumption
A reminder for all parents is that on Friday, we are celebrating the Feast of the Assumption, at 12pm in the school hall. Our Parish Priest, Fr James Anthony, is celebrating the Mass for the school community. All parents are invited to attend.
Book Week
A reminder too, that next week is Book Week, and our particular day of celebration is Tuesday. Students are invited to wear a costume of their choice, to go with the theme 'Book an Adventure'. Book Week is always a great deal of fun and a fitting celebration of books and literacy. My thanks to Amanda de Jongh for coordinating and making our big day possible.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
