PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents

“The Eucharist, although it is the fulness of sacramental life, is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.”

  • Pope Francis

Religious Life of the School

This weekend, we have a number of students celebrating the Sacrament of First Communion. The Eucharist is one of the sacraments of initiation, and speaks to a person’s embrace of their own faith in God, however that is understood at any given age. Congratulations to all the students for this step in faith. My thanks to the parents and teachers for their great support, and to Fr James and the parish team, for their excellent ongoing support.

The religious life of the school also found expression yesterday, in a particular and specific way, when Fr James held a liturgy for students in K – 3, in the school hall. My thanks to Fr James, Andrea McQuirk, and all the K – 3 teachers, for their great support and help.

Tournament of Minds

Last Sunday, we had a team of Year 6 students participate in the next round, or next level, of the Tournament of Minds competition, at Lake Ginninderra College. Getting to this next step was in itself a major achievement, and the students deserve every praise and recognition. Also deserving praise and recognition is Katie Birch, who has travelled the journey with the team (and all teams), and done so much to the support the students. Thank you Katie for your great work.

Student Achievement

A big congratulations to Baron and Freyja in Year 5, both of whom competed in the ACT Athletics Carnival. I am very proud of both of our students. Freyja came third in her event, shot put, which is an amazing achievement! Baron came 2nd in both his 100m and 200m races. Well done, Freyja and Baron, for your particpation, and congratulations to both of you on your great results.

Floriade

As most parents are probably aware, Floriade is in full bloom. Our beautiful Sts Peter and Paul Choir will be performing at Floriade on Monday. My thanks to Lisa Gill, who has done an incomparable job in preparing the choir. I am very proud of our singers.

Science Day

We are celebrating Science Week in Week 10 this year, due to other school commitments at the time that it was held nationally. Tuesday will see our students participate in a range of lessons and activities led by our Year 6 students, followed by a whole school science presentation in the final session of the day. All children are invited to come to school dressed as a scientist. My thanks to Paul Jenkins and Bridget Pigram for coordinating the day.

Grandparents’ Day

On Thursday next week, we are celebrating Grandfriends’ Day. All grandparents or significant older figures in the lives of the students are invited to come to school at 12.15 and spend some time in their grandchild’s or grandchildren’s classrooms, before enjoying a BYO picnic on the blue top or oval. Parents are, of course, very welcome to attend. There is rumour that there may be a special preview of one of our songs from the upcoming Term 4 musical, at the end of the shared meal time. Parents are reminded that students are still required to bring food for first break.

Student Free Last Day

The last day of the term for students is Thursday, September 25th. The first day of Term 4 is Tuesday, October 14th.

Have a wonderful week with your families.

Best wishes
