PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents

Last night, we held the Information Night for parents of children in Year 4 who are making their First Eucharist this year. As we have done with other sacramental celebrations this year, our students are making their First Eucharist with the students from Holy Trinity, Curtin. Our program is parish and home based, supported by the school. I would like to thank all parents for their support, and I would particularly like to thank those parents who are running Home Groups for other parents and students. My thanks too to Fr John Woods, Steph Burns our Religious Education Coordinator, and our 3/4 teachers: Gayle Hunt, Sarah Kennelly, Anne Hitchings, Luke Gubler, Mary Portolesi and Steph Burns.

Book Week

This week we celebrate Book Week, an annual staple on the Sts Peter and Paul calendar, and an event that affords students and staff alike to celebrate the gift of reading and the wonderful worlds that books invite us into. Students will participate in a number of activities on the day and, of course, participate in the eagerly anticipated Book Week costume parade. My thanks to Amanda De Jongh and Maryanne Armstrong for their great work in coordinating the celebrations. Thursday will also provide Amanda with a wonderful send-off as she begins 5 weeks of Long Service Leave. I wish Amanda all the best for her extended break; it is greatly deserved. In her absence, Library and Japanese lessons will be taught by Nic Marsham. We welcome Nic and her contributions over the next 5 weeks. Amanda will return for the last 3 weeks of the school term.

Grandparents’ Day

Thursday also sees us celebrate Grandparents’ Day. In pre-COVID times, as is customary at Sts Peter and Paul, we would have invited all of our Grandparents to the school for Mass and an opportunity to visit classrooms. In light of the restrictions that COVID-19 has put on events such as Grandparents’ Day, all students will make something for their grandparents and participate in a class poem, recited by each class, in honour of their grandparents. Each class’ video will be emailed to parents, providing grandparents with an opportunity to see their grandchild or grandchildren. My thanks to all teachers for their support, and to Steph Burns and Amanda De Jongh for their work in coordinating the day.

Leonie Anstey

Over the last two days, Sts Peter and Paul has been very fortunate in hosting our Maths coach, Leonie Anstey. Leonie has been meeting with grade teams via zoom and working on implementing highly engaging ways to enable students to explore Maths concepts, from Kindergarten to Year 6. It has been an excellent two days and Leonie will visit again in week 5. http://elevatinglearning.com.au/

System Days

Next week, I am away for two days. On Thursday, the A.C.T. principals of Catholic primary schools are meeting and on Friday, we are having a system day with all principals of schools within the Archdiocese, as well as the Director of CE and senior CE personnel. Chief among the agenda items will be a discussion of the Archdiocesan initiative being launched next year for all schools called ‘Catalyst’. This program is being implemented in partnership with the consulting firm Knowledge Society. https://knowledgesociety.com.au/

Have a wonderful week with your families.

Best wishes
