Yesterday I emailed to announce the appointment of Mr Gareth Wigg as our Acting Assistant Principal for the remainder of the school year. Mr Wigg brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we are excited to have him join us. There will be opportunities over the next two weeks for the students to meet Mr Wigg before his formal commencement at the beginning of Term 3.
BGA
Yesterday our school hosted a Block Grant Authority panel who are assessing an application we have put forward to redevelop the senior end of the school. The application will look to enlarge classrooms by reclaiming underutilised spaces and turn these spaces into contemporary classrooms with breakout spaces and flexible furniture. This development will also see the introduction of an AV area with tiered seating, makerspace wet areas, staff workspaces & redeveloped courtyard. It is an exciting project that if successful, will occur in 2020 and totally transform our learning environments for senior students.
Lock on the Front door
We have recently installed a magnetic lock on our front door to continue to provide the safest learning experiences for the children at our school. The lock will engage during the school day, and people wishing to gain access will need to be buzzed into the school from the office. We will have a buzzer installed in the coming days to alert Trish that people wish to gain entry.
Review of Counselling and Wellbeing Services
In the interests of ensuring our students have access to high-quality programs and systems to support their wellbeing, Catholic Education is conducting a review of the wellbeing services and programs that are currently available in our schools.
As a key stakeholder, we seek your input into this process of review. We therefore invite you to complete an online survey which may be accessed by following the hyperlink:
https://forms.gle/tV3PRYh4VVVprMyQ9
In advance, we thank you for taking the time to share your insights and perspectives.
At the conclusion of the process, we will report to you on our findings and related plans for the future to ensure that the services available to our students are of the highest quality.
CENSUS – Special Circumstances
If your family is going on an extended holiday and will be absent from school for the whole period 24th June, 2019 to the 2nd August, 2019 inclusive, please forward a written explanation of absence to the child’s teacher before you leave. Please include the date student will be on leave and the date the student will return to school. We require this information to comply with Government Census obligations. Thank you.
Blessings and best wishes

Sacrament of First Eucharist & Parish Mass – Thank you
Last Sunday, at the 9:30am Mass, a number of our Year 4 students celebrated their First Eucharist. It was a beautiful celebration of communion for the children and their families. Thank you to Mrs Trish Collis for leading the music, and to the teachers who were able to attend Mass and support the students. Thank you also to the Stage 2 teachers, and the parents who led homegroups in order to effectively prepare the students to receive the sacrament.
Sunday Gospel: The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – Year C
This week, the second Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate a second solemnity, which marks our return to Ordinary Time. It is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At one time, this day was called Corpus Christi, Latin for “the Body of Christ.”
This Sunday’s Gospel - The feeding of the 5,000 - is the only one of Jesus' miracles to appear in all four Gospels, and features obvious Eucharistic overtones. Five loaves and two fish would not have been much of a meal for Jesus and the Twelve, much less the crowd that is said to have gathered on this occasion. Jesus’ actions over the food are brief but significant. He blessed it; he broke it; and he gave it as food.

Week 8 Term 2
The School Community Council met last Tuesday 18 June. We were joined by our newly appointed acting Assistant Principal, Gareth Wigg.
As usual, the Council considered a range of issues but the main focus of the meeting was a discussion around uniform. Lauretta Raccosta provided feedback from parents and as a result the following was decided:
- Following complaints around the difficulty of keeping our white sports tops clean, a mostly maroon sports polo (pictured below) will be introduced - note that the final design will have a white School crest in the top left of the shirt. The polo will only be available in short sleeves but students can wear a white long sleeve top underneath in the cooler weather. The current white shirts can still be worn by students but once current stock has run out, only the maroon shirt will be for sale as new at the Uniform Shop.
- The Uniform Shop will sell T-shirts in house colours that can be worn for swimming and athletics carnivals and any other designated events. They will not be compulsory, but are provided for parent convenience.
- A new type of wide-brimmed school hat will be phased in that has a toggled drawstring around the head that can be adjusted to ensure it stays on especially while children are running around. Existing hats can continue to be worn and legionnaire caps will continue to be available for sale for parents and students who prefer that style.
Please note also that there will be a meeting of the Social Committee this Thursday 20 June at Lorraine Newnham’s house, starting at 7:30pm. All interested parents are welcome to attend. If you can’t make it but would like to help out with any activities run by the Committee, please email the Council inbox at scc.stpandp@gmail.com.

During the past week, checklists were distributed to all students to take home. It is important that our records are up to date. Please check your child’s details, sign in the space and return it to school by this Friday. The form needs to be signed and returned even if there are no changes to any details. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard.

Thank you to those families who have paid their fees for Term 2. If you haven’t already done so, please attend to this matter as soon as possible. Thank you.

See the solution below. Did you solve the problem using the following solution? Which one did you use another method? If you made an error, can you identify where your error occurred?
