Dear Parents and Carers
Religious Education News
Last Friday, Sts Peter and Paul joined with Holy Trinity, at Curtin, for the Fest of the Transfiguration, the feast day of the parish to which our school belongs. It was an excellent day. Students from our school joined with students from a twinned class from Curtin, before enjoying a special lunch and then celebrating Mass together. It was a day that celebrated the unity we have within the parish (see below for photos). Yesterday, the school held a liturgy in the hall, celebrating the feast day of St Mary Mackillop, Australia’s first saint, and a woman of extraordinary gifts and fortitude. Students from the Charity and Social Justice team, in Year 6, along with members of staff, led the school beautifully in a reflection on Mary Mackillop. Next week, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption, with a parish Mass taking place in the hall at Sts Peter and Paul, on Tuesday at 12.00. All parents are welcome to attend our Mass. My thanks to Veronica Hall who has coordinated all of these events so well, for our school community.
Next week, starting on Tuesday morning at 8.15am, our Assistant Principal Anna Williams will be leading the parent sessions on creative and fun ways that Maths concepts can be explored and made known to parents. These fully booked out sessions include the use of ‘concrete materials’ to explore Maths concepts. The sessions are for registered parents of students in Grades 3 – 6. Assisting Anna are Sarah Walsh and Sarah Kennelly. My thanks to Anna for her excellent work in coordinating the mornings, and to Sarah and Sarah for volunteering their time to be part of this project.
Working Bee
Last Sunday, parents in the school community met together on Sunday morning for a Working Bee, to help to beautify our school environment. Parents worked very hard in weeding, trimming, collecting rubbish and moving mulch. It was a very successful morning and I am very grateful for all of the support and help. My thanks to Anna Williams and Greg Eagan, for coordinatijng the day and the work, and to our two parents who acted as the ‘Forepeople’ on the day: Lisa Dogan and William Frost.
Science Week
Next week is Science Week, a week that celebrates all things science. Our week culminates on Friday week, with a dress-up day, which sees children comes dressed as scientists and engaging in science activities, specifically designed to celebrate science and the understandings it provides for our world.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes

Principal
First Eucharist
We continue to pray for the students preparing to receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist. The Presentation Masses will be held on 26 August at 6:00pm and 27 August at 9:30am, Holy Trinity Church, Curtin.
If your child has not brought home their activity book, please let me know veronica.hall@cg.catholic.edu.edu. Thank you.
On Tuesday 15 August, Fr John Woods will lead our parish in prayer, celebrating the Assumption of Mary. The Assumption commemorates the belief that when Mary died, both her soul and body were taken to Heaven, to be with her Son, Jesus. All members of the community are warmly welcome to celebrate mass with us in our school hall, commencing at 12 noon.
Feast of the Transfiguration - Friday 4 August
We had a wonderful day celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration with our parish school Holy Trinity and Fr John Woods. The students participated in a range of activities, such as a scavenger hunt, art, reading and sport. Following buddy activities, students enjoyed a lunch and juice provided by Holy Trinity. We then all went to the church to celebrate mass. The singing was prayerful and moving. A big thank you to staff and students at both Holy Trinity and Sts Peter and Paul for their support of the day.
Sunday Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33, 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
Command me to come to you over the water.
Gospel Reflection by Dianne Bergant
Although divine power is manifested in dramatic ways, it is also present in what is unassuming. Traces of God can be seen in the delicacy of a violet, in a cool summer breeze, in the blush of innocence, in the fiery eyes of justice. Every one of us lives in the midst of God, breathes the breath of God’s life, and is constantly touched by the exquisite artistry of God’s creativity. Life itself is a mountain experience of God.
As wonderful as life may be, it can also be very frightening at times. There are misunderstandings and rancour, jealousy and vindictiveness, greed and a hunger for power. Our personal lives can come unravelled and we can feel that we are genuinely ‘at sea’. Every human being is tossed about by the exigencies of life. It is at times like these that we need faith in Jesus. Even though we do not recognise him, he is there in the midst of our chaos. Having the power of God, he is the definitive champion of all chaos, and so he is able to allay our fears and calm the sea.
A true experience of God, whether it be within the ordinariness of life or one of life’s tribulations, is both transformative and effusive. It is a reality that cannot be contained; it must be proclaimed. Disciples must be ready to do what they can in order that the good news of God’s revelation be made known to others.
Blessings for the week ahead,
Veronica Hall

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
Commencing on the first Monday of September and running through with some breaks until a little after Easter 2024, we will conduct an RCIA journey. The RCIA is a journey for those seeking to come into the Church or for those looking to complete their sacramental initiation, having been baptised Catholic or in another Christian tradition. There is an Inquiry phase when folk share what they value and what has drawn them to the RCIA. This is followed by the Catechumenate where there is a consideration of life experience in the light of the Scriptures and Church teaching and practice. During Lent there is time of personal renewal in preparation for Reception into the Church at Easter. This is followed by a time of consideration of how one might live out the faith received in this time and place. Further, the RCIA journey requires a group of parishioners to journey with those inquiring about our Catholic faith. If you or someone you know is interested or would like to be a part of a diverse RCIA Parish Team of parishioners to accompany the candidates, please contact the Parish Office or Fr John. Please pray for this initiative and consider whether you might be more personally involved. Perhaps this could be source of renewal for you?
School Fees - Term 3
School fees for Term 3 will be generated by the Catholic Education Office on Monday. Fees for this Term are due on the 25th August.
Please note that the Building Fund will not be included on the statement and that a letter will be sent to families from CE in due course regarding the Building Fund.
Please note the change of the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number on your statement. BPAY is the preferred method of payment for school fees.
We ask that you don't choose the option of COMPASS PAY for school fee payments as the charges are quite substantial - 1.8% per transaction for the use of this payment method. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Book Week is Coming in Week 6!
The most exciting time of the Year in the Library is almost here! We love celebrating Book Week at Sts Peter and Paul Primary and know many families are preparing their Book Week costumes. Remember, it is a dress up parade of students’ favourite characters from books. It is wonderful if students can bring the book that their character is from. Our parade will be at 9am on Tuesday 22nd August (Week 6) and we warmly welcome parents and carers to join us to watch the parade.
After the parade, students will participate in a range of art and craft activities based on the Zart Art Book Week ideas.
