Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to another term. I hope you and your families have all enjoyed a break, or at least a well-earned change of pace. The students and staff have all returned happy and we are all looking forward to a good term’s learning.
Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival
Next week, we have one of the most popular events on the Sts Peter and Paul Calendar, which is the annual Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival. It is taking place on Friday, October 24. We have over 90 children registered to attend and play, which means we have teams from all grades, from Years 2 – 6. My thanks to Luke Gubler for coordinating our involvement and ensuring our particpation, and to all staff and parents attending on the day.
Year 4 Grade Mass
We are fortunate in having Fr James celebrate Mass with grade classes on a weekly basis this term. Next Monday, our Year 4 students will have Mass with Fr James in the school hall, at 12pm. All parents are welcome to attend. My thanks to Fr James for his great support, and to our REC, Andrea McQuirk, for coordinating the Masses.
Changes to Assembly Times
Sts Peter and Paul have two types of assemblies: Growth Assemblies and Award Assemblies. Starting this term, award assemblies will now take place on even weeks, at Friday morning assemblies, at 9am. Growth assemblies, which see a grade lead an assembly and showcase their work, will continue to take place every four weeks in the school hall, on Thursdays, at 2.15pm. Please note: next week’s Awards Assembly will take place on Thursday morning, at 9am, due to the fact that a large number of children will be away on Friday, due to Boorowa. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Student Achievements
A number of our students have achieved some amazing results in recent days and weeks. Sadie, in Year 3, won her age group’s motocross race on the weekend – well done, Sadie, a great achievement! Congratulations as well to Baron in Year 5, who will be representing the ACT at the upcoming Australian National Championships. Baron will be running in the 100m and 200m races. Finally, last weekend, our very own student Bagpipe performers participated and competed in the Highland Gathering at the Burns Club in Kambah. They were the only primary-aged group to compete – congratulations to our wonderful bagpipe players, I am very proud of you all, and to Ms Gill for her support and hard work.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal
Class Masses
This term, we welcome Father James into our school on a more regular basis to celebrate grade level Masses and liturgies. Each grade will attend a Mass this term, allowing more opportunity to connect with God and experience the faith through the Eucharist.
The schedule for these Masses is as follows:
Week |
Date |
Grade Attending |
Week 2 |
20th Oct 12:20pm |
Year 4 |
Week 3 |
27th Oct 12:20pm |
Year 2 |
Week 5 |
10th Nov 12:20pm |
Year 3 |
Week 6 |
17th Nov 12:20pm |
Year 1 |
Week 7 |
24th Nov 12:20pm |
Years 5 & 6 |
Kindergarten will be participating in a retreat run by our Year 6 Youth Ministry team in place of a liturgy this term. It is a great opportunity to connect with the faith through peer ministry in a less formal setting.
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time - The Parable of the Persistent Widow Luke 18:1-8
In prayer, should we always be resigned to God’s will, should our words always be ‘nice’? Not according to this parable! And not according to many of the Psalms, which cry out to God with anger, elation, anguish and heartache. Jesus is clear that we should bring our real selves to God - our real emotions, our real desires. Maybe God can see our situation more clearly, maybe other people are impacted in different ways, and maybe God knows there are deeper desires beyond the surface ones. Yet God can also see our faith and seeks the wellbeing of all. As Martin Luther King Junior reminds us, ‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.’ Change happens, though it is ever so slow. Our role is to ‘pray continually and never lose heart’. We need not be satisfied with the world as it is, but seek justice especially for the powerless. Rather than calm detachment, faith is trust in God’s goodness despite the circumstances. Let us be real in our prayer and persistent in our actions for what is right.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
School-Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB)
At Saints Peter and Paul our students are supported by a School- Wide Positive Behaviour framework that was developed by our school community to develop a positive, safe, and supportive learning culture.
The framework improves the social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for our students.
Our three expectations, Succeeding Together Safely underpin everything we do here at Sts Peter and Paul Primary School.
Week 1 and 2 Setting Goals and Staying Motivated
Stay on Track: Focus on what you need to do and finish your tasks.
Microskill- Set a simple goal for what you need to accomplish. For example, “Your goal is to finish your reading for today.

SPINACH FILO TRIANGLES
Ingredients
Bunch spinach, washed & chopped
1 apple, grated
500g ricotta cheese
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 lemon, zested
Pinch salt & pepper
8 sheets filo pastry
1/4 cup olive oil
Method
Preheat oven to 180 degrees, line oven trays with baking paper and set aside.
Bring a saucepan of water to the boil, add spinach and cook for 30 seconds. Drain and run under cold water, drain again.
Squeeze all moisture from both the spinach and the grated apple using paper towel and place in a bowl with the ricotta, egg and lemon rind. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
Place 1 sheet of filo pastry on a clean chopping board and cover remaining filo with a damp towel to prevent it from drying out.
Cut sheet in three strips and brush with oil. Place a tablespoon of mixture in the corner and fold diagonally (making a triangle), place on prepared tray.
Continue with remaining filo strips, then repeat with other sheets.
Brush triangles with oil and bake for 20 minutes, until golden.
