Dear Parents,
I hope that Easter was a time of special blessings for you and your family. I trust that you enjoyed the four-day break and the chance to relax with family and friends. Year Two shared a special celebration with us on Monday which encouraged us to continue the work of Jesus by living like Jesus. Our Easter season continues for 50 days after Easter until the disciples were filled with the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Congratulations Sarah Kennelly
Congratulations to Sarah Kennelly who graduated from ACU on Friday 12th of April with a dual Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) degree. We wish Sarah all the best with a long and successful career ahead of her.
Hall and Office Renovation project
Our hall and front office renovation project is in full swing and we are on track to have these renovations occur during the Term 2 holidays. A finishes board will be on display in the front foyer if you would like to see some of the proposed finishes to be used in the project. Next week, we will have some times to take interested members of the community on a walk and talk showcase of our project. See the newsletter next week for dates and times.
Open Days and Enrolment Period
Tomorrow we have our first school Open Day between 9 am and 6 pm to showcase our wonderful school. Please let friends know of this event and don't forget to share your experiences of the school with others. Your feedback is still the defining advertisement for Sts Peter and Paul Primary School and the main reason families want their child to attend this great school. If these dates and times do not work, please contact the office to arrange another time to tour our school. Year 6 leaders will be available during these days to facilitate tours of the school.
Parking around the school
I received notification from Transport Canberra over the holidays about unsafe and illegal parking on Webster Street near the school during the school peak periods. They have advised that Parking Operations may visit the area in the coming weeks to monitor and enforce safe parking practices in the area. They have provided some information about safe parking, how it will be enforced and trying to avoid peak times. Please keep safety in mind when parking particularly during peak periods.

Blessings and best wishes.

Happy Easter
I pray you all had a happy and safe Easter and a refreshing holiday.
Easter is the most important time in our Christian calendar. It is a time of new life and renewal. We have reflected on our lives during Lent, and on Easter Sunday, we renewed our Baptismal vows. In this Easter season, we are encouraged to feel renewed, and to live the joy of Easter.
At the conclusion of last term, Year One, Stage Two and Stage Three led us in three Holy Week Celebrations, and Monday of this week, Year Two led us in an Easter Prayer Celebration.
I wish to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the teachers and students in preparing these Prayer Celebrations and sharing them with our community.
Sunday Gospel
The Gospel for this third Sunday of Easter describes an appearance of the risen Lord in a scene by the Lake of Galilee. Apart from Jesus himself, Peter is the leading figure. It is worth noting that there are several similarities in this account of St Luke’s version of the call of Simon Peter early in his gospel which we heard earlier in the year (Luke 5:1-11): the fruitless fishing all night, the miraculously abundant catch when they follow the instructions of Jesus, a subsequent moment of deep conversion for Peter, followed by a specific commissioning of him for a new pastoral role.
First Eucharist Preparation
Last night the Parish held a Parent Information Night regarding First Eucharist Candidates for 2019. A special thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be home-group leaders.
Mother’s Day
Next Friday morning (week 2) 5/6 Blue will lead us in a prayer Celebration honouring the Mothers and Carers in our community. Prior to this, at 8:00am, there will be a Mother’s Day Breakfast in the school hall. We invite all Mothers and carers in our community to attend. Please register and pay via Qkr!

Naplan Timetable 2019
Students in Years 3 & 5 will shortly complete their NAPLAN testing. This year the test will be completely online which provides a better testing experience, more accurate results and more timely feedback. The timetable for testing at Sts Peter and Paul will be as follows:As you would be aware there are a number of changes that have come into effect this term which affect school buses. The ACT Liberals have begun a petition calling for:
- The ACT Government’s removal of dedicated bus services to schools across Canberra is unjustly forcing students to rely on the public bus network, which will be dangerous for young children;
- It is unacceptable that children will be required to cross busy roads and navigate busy interchanges to catch a public bus;
- Call on the ACT Government to reconsider changes and improve the dedicated school transport network.
If you wish to sign the petition please see the Office.
