Dear Parents,
No doubt you have read the news that Margaret Pollard has resigned her position as Principal of Saints Peter and Paul to prioritise her health into the future. She has accepted a role with Catholic Education in a part time capacity. I want to thank Margaret for the outstanding leadership she has provided our school community over the last three and a half years. Her contributions and leadership during some difficult times for the school will always be remembered. We will have an opportunity to farewell Margaret in Term 3 with an Assembly and community gathering. A process is in place to appoint a Principal for Terms 3 and 4.
If you did not receive this communication on Monday please contact the office to update your details.
Prayers
There are a number of staff members who need our thoughts and prayers. Over the weekend Mrs Pratt’s father passed away and Mrs Moore also lost her Father in Law. They are currently on leave to be with their families during this difficult time. Mrs Armstrong’s mother is very ill at present and she is also on leave for an extended period of time. Please keep these staff members in your thoughts and prayers.
NAPLAN Interruptions
Our Years 3 & 5 students have been completing NAPLAN testing in the last week and a half. There has been much discussion nationally, including some schools resitting the tests, because of disruptions to the testing protocol. While we at Sts Peter and Paul did experience some minor interruptions during testing, our procedures ensured that disruptions to students were minimal. Currently, we do not believe that disruptions prevented students from having a fair opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. If you are concerned about the testing procedures please contact me directly.
Mini STEM Day
Yesterday Year Two ran a STEM day for their students in the Makerspace! Students were challenged to design, build and test designs for their very own Rube Goldberg machines. A Rube Goldberg machine is a complicated gadget/machine that performs simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways. You might have seen some used in advertising recently https://youtu.be/YWk9N92-wvg. Year 2 were challenged to build a machine that moved tennis balls from the top of our tables to the floor in one controlled motion. Some of our designs worked wonderfully, and all students had fun experimenting with gravity and friction and using the design process to refine ideas. Well done Year 2!

Your testimonials to parents are still the number one influencing factor for parents choosing a potential school. Please continue spreading the word about our school.
I hope the long weekend will provide an opportunity for you to relax and unwind with family and friends. Safe travels to those families who may be travelling this weekend.
School Photos are tomorrow
Please wear your full school uniform tomorrow, not sports uniform. Also, we will be having photos with jumpers on, so please remember to bring jumpers tomorrow.
Blessings and best wishes

Numeracy Challenge
I had a number of students say the task last week was so difficult that they were unable to find a solution. I have included the solution for those who attempted and will have a new challenge for you next week.
LETTER TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
Dear parents and carers
As you are aware, I have been on leave for the past two months, dealing with some challenging health issues related to an autoimmune disease.
While I am well at present, I have decided to continue to prioritise my health and to resign from my position as Principal of Saints Peter and Paul, Garran. My decision to resign so unexpectedly has been an extremely difficult decision to make, but it is one that I have made with consideration of the clear advice of my doctor.
I will miss the students and you, the parents and carers, greatly. I feel very connected to this special community, and I feel immense pride in the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place each day in our classrooms. I have been honoured to have had the opportunity to lead the community of Saints Peter and Paul School for the past three and a half years.
Warm regards
Margaret Pollard
Sunday Gospel: John 14:23-29
Although its original context was pre-crucifixion, the language of this week’s gospel works in this post-resurrection Easter season as we prepare to celebrate the Ascension next week. This double purpose language is, of course, not an accident. The gospel was written many years after the death and resurrection of Jesus, and the writer was intentionally conveying the double meaning of ‘going away’: Jesus going to his death; and Jesus going back to the Father.
Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to the disciples and to the world. The Holy Spirit performs a dual purpose: firstly, to carry on the teaching; and secondly, to continue to remind the believers of all that Jesus said and did. The action of the Holy Spirit continues in the world today – inspiring and teaching those who are open to hearing and keeping alive the memory of Jesus, his teaching and his compassion.

KITCHEN AND CANTEEN INGREDIENT DRIVE
Mrs Moore and Mrs Raccosta would like to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped stock up our pantry for 2019!
We were overwhelmed with the number of items that were brought into the school. With an average participation from the school of 70%, these donations will help us bring more goodies to the Kitchen and Canteen Menu.
It was very close, but we do have a class winner…. 1W, you will have some hot party food on us this Friday at lunch time. ENJOY!!!
Thank you to all the students who participated in today’s Special Lunch! It’s so nice to see the children enjoying themselves sharing the same meal with their friends.
A special THANK YOU goes to Lorraine, Maria, Ange, Maggie and Andrew for helping out this morning! Your help was very much appreciated!!!
As a school we have raised $160 to be donated to Little Oak Sanctuary. We would like to thank all the wonderful parents/carers that brought in so many cupcakes to be sold at the Athletics Carnival. Without the donations of cupcakes, this fundraiser would not have been as successful. On behalf of Little Oak Sanctuary, THANK YOU! This money will go a long way in helping the animals.
