Dear Parents and Carers
Last Wednesday evening and Thursday I attended Siloam, a mini-retreat held once a term for all principals in the Archdiocese. The term ‘Siloam’ comes from a passage in theGospel where Jesus heals a man born blind. Part of his healing involves washing his eyes in the pool of Siloam. The pool can still be found in the city of Jerusalem. The scripture passage speaks to the healing we all need in our lives. In the case of principals, as leaders of school communities, it speaks to the need to occasionally address needs so that we may return to our school communities with a clearer vision. They are always invaluable experiences.
School Disco
Last Friday night, we held out first school disco since 2019. It was a great success, despite the sudden loss of power, which took place with 15 minutes left of the senior disco. The loss of power also affected parts of Hughes and Garran. While the abrupt ending of the disco was less than ideal, the success of the disco was clearly apparent. Our DJ, parent ‘Jungle Jerry’, did an amazing job – my thanks to Jerry for his wonderful work. The whole disco was possible only through the excellent efforts and organisation of the Community Council and Sean Rutledge. My thanks to all concerned for giving our students a wonderful experience. The school is looking to make up the disco to our senior students.
PSSA Cross Country & Athletics Carnival
Today, the PSSA Cross Country Carnival was held for the Woden region. We had some 55 students attend the carnival, which was held at Stromlo Forest. My thanks to Mary de Smet for organising our attendance and to Maryanne Armstrong and Cathy Shepherd for attending with the students. This Friday, Sts Peter and Paul is holding its Athletics Carnival, at Woden Park Athletics Track. It will be a great day and much fun. Again, my thanks to Mary de Smet for organising the carnival and for all of her work. Parent helpers are needed. If you are able to volunteer any time, please contact the front office via the school email: office.stpandp@cg.catholic.edu.au
Confirmation Retreat Day and Presentation Masses
This Thursday, our students in Year 6 will be joining their fellow Year 6 students and staff from Holy Trinity at the Parish of the Transfiguration Confirmation Retreat Day. My thanks to Fron Garrett-Rumba, Paul Jenkins and Sarah Kennelly for their excellent work in preparing the day. The retreat day will be an invaluable step in the children’s preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This weekend, students who are receiving the Sacrament are asked to attend one of the Presentation Masses, over the weekend. It is a reminder that our school (and that of Holy Trinity, Curtin) are part of a Catholic community that is bigger than any one school.
Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
A reminder that parent/teacher interviews are being held in Week 9, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with Thursday being a late evening. I encourage all parents to make a time via Compass to see their child’s teacher/teachers. This week, an email will go home via Compass with details about how to book a time. Reports will be delivered home on Wednesday of Week 10, via Compass. As has been written earlier, this Semester there will be no comments on the report. CE, not the school, has made this decision. The reason for the decision is that the compass platform does not have the capability, yet, to deliver comments. My understanding is that this being rectified, for a possible return of comments in Semester 2.
Tell Them from Me
Finally, a reminder for parents to complete the school’s annual survey, ‘Tell them from me’. A link to the survey can be found here:
My thanks in advance for your participation. Your feedback is important and will help us form our annual and strategic plans.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes

Gospel Reflection- The Body and Blood of Christ
Mk 14:12-16, 22-26
The words of the gospel passage in which Jesus takes bread and wine and blesses them will be familiar. They are the words used at the consecration of the bread and wine during the Mass. The words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper are regarded as instituting the celebration of the Eucharist. Jesus took an act that was familiar to the Passover meal and gave it a new meaning and a new significance for his followers. What had been a memory of escape from slavery in Egypt became an ongoing reminder of Christ’s continued presence in the Eucharist and in the Eucharistic community.

Due to current COVID restrictions, we kindly ask all parents attending the carnival in any capacity to use the Saints Peter and Paul Check in Canberra App QR code on the day, which will be located near the covered seating area (sign in and out sheets will also be found here if you do not have a smartphone) and observe the 1.5m social distancing measures currently in place.
On the day, children may wear a house colour t-shirt instead of their school sport shirt if they would like. If you’re not sure what your child’s house colour is, please ask their teacher. The houses and colours they represent are; Red – Cooyal, Yellow – Bangalong, Green – Iraga and Blue – Talara.
Children will need to apply sunscreen before coming to school and will also need to bring their hat, any food that they would like to eat and school bag with them to Woden Park Athletics Track. If your child/ren would like to make posters and bring mascots to support their house, they are most welcome to. However, we kindly ask that no crepe paper, streamers or glitter be used when creating these.
Mrs Raccosta will be offering a special lunch on this day, so watch out for more information in relation to this. Unfortunately, there will be no over the counter canteen sales on the day.
Holding this carnival enables us to select students to represent our school at the South/Weston Region Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 18th August. Students who are turning 8 and over this year may be considered for representative selection. Information in relation to parents/spectators attending the regional carnival will be shared with you when it becomes available to us.
We’re looking forward to an amazing day of fun together.

SSACT Trials
The process for registering your child for an ACT sport trial can be found below. If you need any assistance registering your child, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will hopefully be able to help you out. If you find that there are any steps missing within this process, please let me know at your earliest convenience.
SSACT Registration Process
School Sport ACT now collects all registration information online – this is to prevent the movement to and fro of a paper note and have all information readily available to officials prior to the trial. As this process incurs a fee for data storage, system maintenance and admin, a small fee payment via credit card will be required.
How to register a Student with School Sport ACT.
- Go to the School Sport ACT website schoolsportact.org.au
- Go to Register (top right corner of the homepage) and create an account.
- After completion, check your registered email to verify your account. (Always check your spam folder in case you didn't immediately receive the verification email).
- After verifying your account, Log In (top right hand corner of the homepage) using your registered email and password.
- You’ll be presented with your Parent Dashboard. From there you can start the process of registering a Student into a Trial.
- Click the green Add Student
- Complete all of the information required for your Student (e.g. Medical Details, Sport, Playing History, Preferred Position, School etc.) and save the information. (If your child is already in the system, please ensure that your child’s school is up to date in your profile.)
- Click on the trial information box and then click on the register to trial link.
- Make the small credit card payment. After payment your Principal/School Approver will receive an email for their approval to trial.
You will be able to see the process has been complete back in My Profile – once your Principal/School Approver has completed the approval process your child’s information will be collated onto a list for the Team Manager and Coach prior to trial.
