Dear Parents and Carers
“We can recognize people who have had a second baptism in the Holy Spirit. They tend to be loving. They tend to be exciting. They want to serve others, and not just be served themselves. They forgive life itself for not being everything they once hoped for. They forgive their neighbours. They forgive themselves for not being as perfect as they would like to be.”
Fr Richard Rohr, ‘Baptism of Fire and Spirit’
On the weekend, students in Year 6 who are making their Confirmation were presented to the parish. It is a reminder that the stories of our lives are always part of a bigger story. Sts Peter and Paul is part of the Parish of the Transfiguration, which is a part of the Archdiocese of Canberra/Goulburn, which is in turn part of the universal Church. The feast of Pentecost, which we also celebrated on the weekend, and about which Richard Rohr writes so well in the paragraph above, is also an account of the lives of the disciples being taken up into something much larger than themselves – the gratuitous love of God. Pentecost is not just for Jesus’ disciples. It is for all of us. Rohr writes of people in our lives who have been open to the offer of the Holy Spirit. What he describes above could otherwise be named ‘the fruits of the Holy Spirit’. My thanks to the Year 6 students and their families for their step in faith; and my thanks as well to Steph Burns, Luke Gubler, Sarah Kennelly, and Monsignor John Woods, for all their support of our students.
South Weston Cross Country
Yesterday, Cathy Shepherd and I attended (in extremely warm clothes) the South Weston Cross Country Carnival, held at Criterion Track. Students from Sts Peter and Paul who qualified for the regional PSSA participated and I was very proud of all their achievements and sporting attitude. I will notify the parent community of any students who advance through to the ACT championships.
Student Achievement
Sts Peter and Paul is blessed to have students who excel in many and varied ways. On the weekend, Cameron de Jongh, one of our Year 6 students, learned that he was the winner of his local council's sustainability competition. The competition involved children designing a town and park for the Queanbeyan Council (using Minecraft) and explaining how their building would be sustainably built and managed for the future.
Cameron was judged as the overall winner of the competition, receiving a $500 prize, and a trophy. He was also interviewed by the United Nations Council Environmental Program, which was aired live, worldwide. Well done, Cameron, I am very proud of you. An extraordinary achievement! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dfIAcW1d2A
Athletics Carnival
Today, we held our annual Athletics Carnival at Woden Park Athletics Track. My thanks to Sarah Kennelly for coordinating the carnival, and to the many staff who assisted in many ways. It was a wonderful day.
Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Reports for all students will be made available to parents in Week 10. A teacher comment is included in this semester's report, as well as grades for all subject areas. If you would like to have a parent/teacher interview in Week 9 or 10, or at a time convenient to you and your child's teacher, please contact your child's teacher via email. Some parents may be contacted directly by teachers, should teachers see a particular need to discuss the learning progress of a student. Please contact me directly at school if you have any questions about the interviews, or any other aspect of your child's learning.
Have a wonderful week with your families
Best wishes
Cameron Johns

Confirmation – Year 6
As you would be aware from previous newsletters, the Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated in our Parish this Term. This Sacrament is for children in our parish who are in Year 6.
Presentation Masses were held last weekend at Holy Trinity Church, Curtin. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a parish and celebrate the important step forward in the faith journey of these young people.
There will be a Stole Night tomorrow (Thursday 9th June) at 5:30pm in the Holy Trinity School Hall. On the Stole Night, each candidate and one of their parents will create a stole that the Candidates will wear during the Sacrament.
Next Friday (17th June), there will be a Retreat Day, held at Holy Trinity School for all Year 6 students. A permission note will go home with more information regarding this today via Compass.
The Sacrament will be celebrated in the Parish of the Transfiguration, North Woden, on Tuesday 21 June 2022 at 6pm and Wednesday 22 June at 6pm.

The Most Holy Trinity, Year C
In the Gospel of John, today’s reading appears as part of the rather lengthy Last Supper discourse that runs from chapter 13 to chapter 17. The discourse is a centrepiece of this particular gospel. In it, Jesus speaks a number of times about the coming of the Holy Spirit. The portion that makes up today’s reading comes from a slightly longer passage about the sending of the Spirit (16:4-15).
Throughout the Last Supper discourse, the Holy Spirit is identified as Gift and Love. The Spirit is the Gift that will be sent by the Father and by the Son so that the world may continue to experience the Love of the Father and the Son. In the discourse, Jesus calls on the disciples to love one another with the same love that they had experienced from Him – the love of God. To assist the disciples to continue to love with the same love of God and Jesus, the Spirit is sent to them. The Holy Spirit is the lasting expression of the divine love that had previously been experienced through the Father and the Son. The discourse makes it very clear that the Spirit will continue the work of Jesus.
Today’s passage has Jesus saying to the disciples that there is still so much that He has to say to them, to teach them. But the disciples are not ready to receive everything in the time that Jesus has remaining. So to continue the teaching of Jesus and to continue the expression of Love, the Father and the Son will send the Spirit. It was the sending of the Spirit that we celebrated last week in the feast of Pentecost and it is the unity of Father, Son and Spirit that we celebrate this week in Trinity Sunday.

YEAR 2 Netball!
The Year 2 Twinkle Stars are looking for 2 or 3 more players. Games are played at 9am at the SCNA courts at Deakin using modified rules. Registration is $218.37. All children are welcome to play - girls and boys! It is lots of fun and a lovely team! Please contact Lucy Webb at stpandpnetball@gmail.com for more information.
In the kitchen this week the children learnt about the Diary Group. They remembered that this group has foods in it that make us GROW - especially when you are in Kinder and Year 1! We discovered that many of us had milk with our dinner and that cheese was also a good source of dairy.
The Kinder crew had fun making smoothies and the Year 1s made cheese muffins which they enjoyed at the end of cooking as well as taking them home to share.
In the garden this week, thanks to a fire pit used by the STEM classes, the Garden Club learnt how to dig over a garden bed with charcoal. First, we needed to weed it and then with trowels and gloves on hands we dug the small chunks into the bed in preparation for our next seedlings. As usual fun was had by all.
Oh and have a close look at the photos - our resident Maggie has friends. All three enjoyed some left over cheese muffin from cooking.
If you would like any more information about The Kitchen Garden Program, please email Mrs Katie Birch Katherine.birch@cg.catholic.edu.au
