Dear Parents and Carers
First Eucharist Celebration
Last weekend, students from Year 4 celebrated their First Eucharist at Holy Trinity Church, Curtin. The Masses were wonderful celebrations and mark a step in faith for our children and their families. My deep thanks and appreciation to Stephanie Burns, our excellent REC, and our equally excellent teachers, Paul Jenkins, Josh Geries and Sarah Walsh. My thanks too to Fr John Woods and the parish team, for their great support. Finally, I would also like to acknowledge Emily Capper, REC at Holy Trinity, who works very closely with Steph Burns. Parents may not realise that our children receive their Sacraments with students from Holy Trinity, which speaks to the deep connection the two schools have. This involves much in the way of collaboration and teamwork, between the two schools. Emily and Steph are a great team and serve both schools and the parish well.
Memorial Service – Queen Elizabeth
Yesterday, 3 parents and their children attended the memorial service, held at Parliament House, for Queen Elizabeth. My thanks to Amanda and Grace Basedow, Sarah and Lucy Agland and Richard and Evie Barrett. By all accounts, it was a lovely and meaningful service. There are photos of students who attended, from Catholic schools, in the online version of the Catholic Voice. From bishops to students - many mourn Queen at National Service - Catholic Voice
My thanks to the Basedow, Agland and Barrett families for their great support, and to all families for their expressions of interest.
Day 1 – Term 4
A reminder for all families that the first day of Term 4 is Monday, October 10. I look forward to seeing our returning families and students on the 10th.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the tireless and extremely hardworking staff of Sts Peter and Paul, for an excellent term. All staff contribute in multiple and varied ways to the running of the school and do an excellent job in providing a stimulating and safe educational environment. I wish all staff a very safe and relaxing break.
Have a wonderful holiday with your families.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal
First Holy Communion
Last weekend, we gathered as a community to celebrate with many of the children in the Transfiguration Parish as they received their First Eucharist. All 3 Masses over the weekend were such beautiful, memorable celebrations for our families. It was wonderful to see some of our teachers also there supporting these students. A big congratulations to the children and their families on this very special occasion.
Grandparent’s Day 2022
On Friday 14th of October, we will celebrate Grandparents and Special Friends Day. This year, we will do things a little differently to ensure that we can still gather and enjoy some time with these very special people while still adhering to best practice regarding COVID-19.
We will begin the celebration at school from 12:00 pm, with Grandparents and special friends invited to join their children in their classrooms to spend some time sharing in some fun activities and showing them their learning that has taken place throughout the year so far. At 1:10, all visitors will be invited out into our playground to share a BYO picnic lunch with their Grandchild/children at recess time.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Grandparents and Families into the school on this special day.
Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C Gospel Reflection
In the Old Testament, it is made very clear that how well the people are living in relationship with God is measured by how well the very least in the society are being treated. Time and again, God makes plain to the people, through the prophets, that what they are expected to do is live in right relationship with one another and with God. The cyclic rise and fall in fortune of the people of Israel is a direct result of the way in which they treat the poor and lowly of the society. When all in the society are properly cared for, Israel flourishes; but when the widows and orphans and other marginalised people are neglected and even rejected, then trouble befalls Israel. Today’s first reading, from the prophet Amos, is an example of this cycle and an example of the role the prophets played in calling the people back to faithfulness with God and faithfulness with one another. Amos berates those who luxuriate in comfort whilst ignoring the plight of others.
The theme continues then into the gospel passage. The rich man lives in extravagant luxury but ignores the plight of Lazarus who is starving at his door. (This is not the same Lazarus that Jesus raised from the dead.) Both men die and, as Jesus taught over and over again, the poor man Lazarus is welcomed into the kingdom of God but the rich man, who ignored his neighbour, is trapped in Hades. When the rich man asks that Lazarus be sent back to life to warn others of the fate that awaits them, Abraham reminds him that the people of Israel have had a long line of prophets calling them back to faithfulness but their message has been ignored.

Have a blessed holidays,
Stephanie Burns
Religious Education Coordinator
Our very own Maddie G, wonderful Youth Minister and Learning Support Assistant, is about to go on a big adventure. In her own words .......
I am going for 10 days to London/Scotland to be apart of the Spiritus program. It is a faith formation program for education and other church leaders which equips them for evangelising. I am going to represent CSYMI Youth Ministry in Australia. I will be running sessions on testimonies, the CSYMI model and speaking about how to share your faith. The program is run in London at Worth School and then Scotland at St Mary's University.
I feel very blessed for this opportunity to share my faith.
Maddie
We are so proud of Maddie and so lucky to have her as our inspiring Youth Minister.

We have been busy as usual…
Years 3 and 4 spent their week in the kitchen cooking muesli slice using ingredients from most of the food groups. Watch out parents – this is a great slice to include in lunch boxes. Simply ask for the recipe and your wonderful child can make it for you!!
The slice contained many healthy ingredients and the children needed to be able to tell us what each one did for their body.
In the garden we welcomed a bay leaf tree thanks to our grant money. We hope it will grow beautifully and then we can sell the dried leaves at our kitchen garden stall before assemblies again.
If you have any questions please email Mrs Katie Birch katherine.birch@cg.catholic.edu.au.
Have a wonderful and restful break from The Garden Club.
