Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week we celebrated Grandparents’ Day. It was a great occasion, and one in which we welcomed back, for the first time in a long time, a large number of visitors inside the school building. Grandparents had the opportunity to visit their grandchildren’s classrooms and then enjoy lunch outside with their grandchildren. There was a great deal of energy and good will in the school. My thanks to our REC, Steph Burns, for coordinating the day, and to all staff for their great work and support.
Year 6 Camp
Our Year 6 students have been on camp this week. They left on Wednesday and arrive back this afternoon. It was a very enjoyable experience for all concerned. Along with Luke Gubler, Sarah Kennelly and Katie McGregor, I joined our staff and the students for three excellent days. The students were very well behaved and were a credit to themselves. I was very proud of the way they worked together and supported each other. My thanks to Sarah, Luke and Katie for their support of our students.
Chris Higgins Visit
Next week, over two days, Chris Higgins will join us in the school. Chris is CE’s Maths Officer, and he works with all 56 schools around Maths strategies and skills. He will work in all classrooms over two days, modelling good, ‘hands-on’ Maths lessons, which make effective use of concrete materials.
Student Representative Council
Our SRC is made up students from Years 3 – 6, and all members were voted on the SRC by their peers. They have identified the need to have a ‘Buddy Bench’ to assist any child who may be experiencing social isolation on the playground. To that end, they are organising and hosting a ‘Pyjama Day’ next Friday, the 28th of October. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation. The money raised will be matched by the school, and all funds will go towards the purchase of a ‘Buddy Bench.’ A great initiative and organised completely by our SRC.
2023 Class Lists
Although still early in Term 4, teachers will soon begin the process of compiling class lists for 2023. The process is necessarily involved, and a number of factors need to be considered. Students will be asked to nominate their preferences for classmate, and parents will have an opportunity to be part of that process, with their children. Here is a link which can take you to a ‘Friendship Four’ conversation.

Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C Gospel Reflection
This week’s gospel passage flows on directly from last week’s gospel and continues the teaching of Jesus about prayer. Whereas the preceding passage emphasised the need for persistence in prayer, this passage is about the way in which we come before God in prayer. It is the tax collector, whose simple prayer is ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner,’ who goes home at rights with God. In this simple prayer, the tax collector recognises that he is not in right relationship with God and asks for God’s mercy. This is a hallmark of the lowly and outcast in the gospel of Luke: they recognise their need and seek God’s forgiveness and mercy. The model of faith that is depicted over and over again in this gospel is the one who recognises their need for God’s loving mercy and asks for it. We are repeatedly reminded that God’s mercy, forgiveness and abundant love are constantly out-flowing towards us and all we have to do is humbly desire and welcome them.
Humility is at the heart of this parable. The Pharisee is representative of those who are assured of their own rightness but who rely on comparison with others to make themselves feel righteous and justified. The actions of this man were not limited to Pharisees alone, nor are they limited to a particular time and place. This man’s attitude of asserting his own faithfulness and religious observance by comparison with others can be easily seen in the world today. All faiths seem to be afflicted with these characters who assure themselves of their own ‘goodness’ by railing against those who are different. But, as the parable assures us, it is the humble who are exalted by God.

Have a blessed week,

This term has started beautifully with Years 5 and 6 making an appearance in the kitchen.
They were very busy last week making healthy dips and crackers. The children used the blenders, knives and picked produce from the garden. Very exciting!!
They will spend the next term learning about health and cooking up a storm each week in the kitchen as they learn about the five food groups.
Stay tuned for more updates.
