Dear Parents and Carers
First Eucharist
Last weekend, we celebrated the first Eucharist of a number of our students in Year 4. The Masses were very happy and joyous occasions, and I would like to thank all involved, who contributed to the Masses being so special: our excellent Year 4 teachers; Veronica Hall, our wonderful REC; and our very supportive parish team, Fr John and Catherine Grinsell-Jones. A big thank you too to our parents for supporting their children, and for leading the Home Groups. Without your help, the occasion would not have been as meaningful. Thank you all.
Netball Achievement
Congratulations to our girls in Year 6, whose team – SPP Gang Gang Cockatoos – played in their final on the weekend. Despite not achieving the outcome they were hoping for, parents and friends were very impressed with the girls’ level of teamwork, support for each other and commitment to the team. The fact they were coached by two past students, Ava and Hannah, added to the special nature of the team. Well done, girls.
Last Friday, our Year 6 students hosted the annual ‘Market Day’. This is one of the highlights of leadership calendar for our Year 6 students. All money raised goes to worthy causes and in that sense, is an example of faith put into action. My thanks to our Year 6 teachers, Katie McGregor and Luke Gubler, for their excellent organization and leadership, and to the Year 6 students themselves, for their hard work and support of those in need.
Grandfriends’ Day
A reminder that this Friday, all grandparents – or grandfriends – are invited to the school, at 12.30, to visit their grandchild’s or grandfriend’s classroom and participate in some activities. Grandparents and friends, with other family members, are then invited to join us for a byo lunch on the bluetop and oval, from 1.10pm. We would love to see our grandparents and friends here on the day. A reminder that students will need to bring their own lunch on Friday as our grandfriends celebration will not start until after their usual lunch time.
Term 4 Start Date
A reminder that Term 4 begins next term on Monday, October 9th, for all students.
I wish all of our families a wonderful holiday and a restful two weeks. Our hopes are with the Wallabies, who face a do-or-die game this coming Monday, against Wales. Whatever team you follow in the AFL or NRL, I hope you enjoy the finals as they rapidly approach.
I look forward to seeing all of our families again Monday, October 9.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal
Sacrament of First Eucharist
Last weekend, our school and parish celebrated the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Children from across the parish came together to receive the Body of Christ. The children were both nervous and excited. A big thank you to the parents/carers and teachers for walking alongside the children on their faith journey.
Grandfriends Day
Our Grandfriends (grandparents and/or special friends) are invited to come and see the wonderful learning happening at SPP on Friday 22 September.

Who were Jesus’ grandparents?
Jesus' grandparents are Joachim and Anne. They are the parents of his mother, Mary. They loved Jesus more than anything and raised Mary well. There is a church built over the ruins of their home where Mary was born.
Social Justice - Catholic Mission
Thank you to our Year 6 leaders with Mr Gubler and Mrs McGregor for leading our Mission Market Day. As a school we raised $1173.35!
Zoe & Olive's Mission Bake Stall
Next term, Olive Ingold and Zoe Sladic from Year 2 will host a Bake Stall. All monies raised will go towards Catholic Mission. Students are invited to bring a gold coin donation and select either one cupcake or jelly cup on Friday 13 October. Thank you to Olive, Zoe and families.
Sunday Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16, 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
Why are you jealous because I am generous?
Gospel Reflection by Greg Sunter
On a first reading of this gospel story, the reader is probably struck by the unfairness of the situation. The landowner has employed day labourers at different times throughout the day to work in his vineyard. However, come the end of the day, the landowner pays all the day labourers the same amount. Not surprisingly, the labourers employed at daybreak to work the whole day are upset that those who have only worked the last hour of the day are paid the same amount. The landowner reminds them that he is paying them what they agreed at the start of the day, and yet the reader is left uncomfortable about the whole arrangement.
Of course, this is the purpose of Jesus’ story! The key to the story is in the introduction. Most of the kingdom parables told by Jesus begin with a formulaic statement, ‘The kingdom is like …’ and this one is no different. What follows is almost always a description of an everyday event that is turned on its head. In all of the kingdom parables recorded in the gospels, Jesus describes a world order in which people respond in unexpected and sometimes confusing ways. His message is that the kingdom, or reign, of God turns expectations upside down. In the kingdom, people who are treated badly in this world are held in great esteem; the balance of power is turned upside down; and the usual order of things is challenged. The landowner’s final comment in the parable, ‘the last will be first, and the first, last’, is a perfect example of the challenging nature of Jesus’ kingdom parables. In the kingdom, those who hold themselves to be first in this world will be brought down, and those who are treated as least in this world will be exalted.
Blessings for the week ahead,

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
Commencing on the first Monday of September and running through with some breaks until a little after Easter 2024, we will conduct an RCIA journey. The RCIA is a journey for those seeking to come into the Church or for those looking to complete their sacramental initiation, having been baptised Catholic or in another Christian tradition. There is an Inquiry phase when folk share what they value and what has drawn them to the RCIA. This is followed by the Catechumenate where there is a consideration of life experience in the light of the Scriptures and Church teaching and practice. During Lent there is time of personal renewal in preparation for Reception into the Church at Easter. This is followed by a time of consideration of how one might live out the faith received in this time and place. Further, the RCIA journey requires a group of parishioners to journey with those inquiring about our Catholic faith. If you or someone you know is interested or would like to be a part of a diverse RCIA Parish Team of parishioners to accompany the candidates, please contact the Parish Office or Fr John. Please pray for this initiative and consider whether you might be more personally involved. Perhaps this could be source of renewal for you?

Please bring your own picnic lunch for you all to enjoy! We hope you have a fabulous Grandfriends Day!
Farewell for the term
We had such a great time this term with tons of terrific work completed by all our amazing students! We can't wait to have you back next term for an incredible end to the year! Can you believe we will only have 10 more weeks left of the school year! Next term Year 5 and Year 6 are excited to perform their play 'Matilda', in Week 4. We have been working very hard throughout this term to perfect this play and can't wait to show it to you.
We hope you enjoy the two week break and spend some quality time with your family and friends.

Last week there was no cooking but in Garden Club we put on our thinking hats to design a new scarecrow. We had many great ideas. Watch this space for a new look Mr Sticks.
Our strawberries received a well earned watering and are growing well with many flowers. Pray for many strawberries this year!
