Dear Parents and Carers
Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students have been having a wonderful time on camp at Berry and are due back this afternoon. By all accounts, the children are having a fun time and the photos on Facebook confirm this. My thanks to Sam, Luke and Sam Mance, for providing the students with this wonderful opportunity. Our Year 6 students will have their own camp in 3 weeks, at Borambola. I look forward to joining our students on the camp in late February.
On Monday February 26th, in Week 5 at 6pm, Sts Peter and Paul is holding an information night on Leadership Opportunities for Grades 3 – 6. Luke Gubler is our Coordinator of Student Leadership Grades 3 – 6. Luke and I will lead the evening in detailing the many and varied opportunities available to our students in the upper grades. All parents are invited, particularly those in Years 2 & 3.
Opening School Mass & Ash Wednesday Mass
A reminder to all parents that our Opening School Mass is on this Thursday at 12pm in the school hall. Our acting REC Amanda Basedow has done an excellent job in preparing the Mass, centered around our school theme of ‘Flourishing’, and all parents are warmly invited to attend.
Next Wednesday, February 15th, marks the beginning of Lent. We will be holding an Ash Wednesday Mass at 12pm for all students, in the school hall. Again, parents are warmly invited to join us for the Mass.
Meet and Greet Night
Thursday night sees our annual ‘Meet and Greet’ night take place. All parents are invited to attend in the hall at 6pm to hear a short presentation from me and to meet all the staff. Parents are then invited to join the teachers on the blacktop, at grade ‘booths’, where they can meet their child’s or children’s teachers for the year and receive a term overview and letter. I look forward to seeing you all on the night.
Awards Morning Assembly
Finally, a reminder that this week's awards will be given out this Friday at our morning assembly, as opposed to our Thursday afternoon assembly.
Have a wonderful week with your families. I look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday night.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal

SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B
Mark 1:40-45- The leprosy left him and he was cured.
We know that we will all have to face some kind of suffering, and so we try to prepare ourselves for it. Yet when it comes, as prepared as we try to be, it can overtake us with such fury that we fall back defenceless. We look to others for support and assistance, and if we are fortunate, we find it. However, even in the most supportive of communities, suffering tends to alienate us from those who are healthy and secure. Suffering reminds us of our own finitude and the contingent nature of all of life. It threatens our sense of order.
Jesus is not deterred by human suffering. He welcomes all who approach him; his healing touch reincorporates those who have been ostracised; his loving embrace reassociates those who have been alienated. In the reign of God, there are no outsiders. All belong to Jesus, and, therefore, all belong to each other. When the one afflicted is embraced by the community, the community is an authentic manifestation of the inclusive reign of God.
In suffering we witness human vulnerability and our desperate need of each other and of God. There, at the edge of life and on the fringes of the community, we may experience the tenderness and compassion of God. The loving touch of Christ that can heal our souls, if not our bodies. It is there that we may most authentically participate in the cross of Christ. Joined to him we are anything but unproductive or worthless.

The link below contains tips to help your child manage back to school anxiety.
It comes from the 'Emerging Minds' website, an excellent resource.

Year 6 this year has been really good so far with challenging tasks and fun activities. We really enjoy and appreciate the support Mrs McGregor has given us and we will try our hardest to be excellent Year 6 leaders. We all are really excited for camp this year in Week 5. We are also really excited for getting our Year 6 badges on Thursday. We hope we can try our best to be the best Year 6 class the school has ever seen. We all are looking forward to our leadership excursions, like going to the art gallery and our walks with Malkara.

Book Club is back!
- Scholastic book club will be running again this year. Issue 1 brochures will be coming home this week. Orders close Friday Week 3- 17th February. All orders are placed online - please note we do not accept cash or orders at school as all orders are placed online. Click here to access an online version: https://www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/
You are encouraged to download the LOOP app which is an easy way for parents to order book club. Please note orders will take approximately 1 week to be delivered to school after the issue closing date (not when you place the order).
Our school is St Peter and Pauls when you are in the LOOP app.
Lunchtimes in the Library
The Library is open at Lunchtimes (after eating time) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for children to come and read, draw or play quietly.
Why do we need Library Bags?
I often get asked this question by students…. And it is for a few reasons: 1) It keeps books borrowed from the Library separate from other books that may be at home. 2) They are easy to find when it is Library day and 3)... they protect our Library books!
This brand new book was found on the playground. As you can see it is completely ruined as it was left outside over a weekend in the rain. Please continue to remind your children that it is very important to care for any books borrowed from the Library. This includes keeping them dry, away from food and to treat them with care so the plastic covers and pages don’t get torn or damaged.
As always, a massive thank you to all the families who do take care of our wonderful books and encourage Library borrowing!
Happy reading!

Last week was our first cooking and gardening lessons for 2024.
This term Years 3 and 4 are in the kitchen learning about healthy eating, cooking the food we are growing and they just might be involved in the Canberra Show again.
The Year 3 and 4 students made scones and indigenous damper using rosemary.
The garden received lots of TLC as it had been left alone for a few weeks. We planted chives, spinach and lettuce and transplanted the mint and parsley to under the fruit trees to give us more room.
It was a great turn out and everybody got to do two jobs. We had fun. New gardeners are always welcome each Friday at lunch time.
Please email katherine.birch@cg.catholic.edu.au for more information.
