Dear Parents,
On Sunday, we presented our Year 6 candidates for Confirmation to the community during our Parish Mass for this term. Please keep these students in your thoughts and prayers over the next few weeks as they renew their baptismal promises and are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
It has been a few weeks since I last touched upon the power of developing a growth mindset in our students. It has been shown to not only benefit education but other areas such as Sport and the field of Innovation.
I have had some parents ask this is well and good but what does this look like and how can I discuss this with my children? There are some great resources online, but this week I found something that you might like to use to discuss a Growth Mindset with your family. This technique uses the stories of successful people and scientific research to help to name some of the elements which constitute a growth mindset.
Father’s Day
We are looking forward to celebrating with families on Friday morning. Breakfast will be served from 8.00am until 8.50am, and the Prayer Celebration led by 2M will commence at 9.15am in the Church. With the hall out of action due to renovation we will be cooking and serving in the Kindergarten courtyard. Please collect your pre-purchased food tickets from the table at the side gate entrance to the courtyard.
Uniform
In recent weeks, teachers have noticed a number of students wearing non-uniform hats and jumpers to school. Please ensure that your child is wearing his/her school hat and school jumper at all times. If your child has misplaced an item of school uniform, please have them check the lost property outside the Canteen area. In the coming weeks, Mrs R will be launching a streamlined uniform policy with photographic examples of the options available for students regarding uniform choices. Watch this space…
School Improvement Survey
Thank you to the 86 respondents who took part in this year’s My School Survey. The data gathered from you will be used to inform strategic directions for the coming year. Thank you to all those who responded.
Hall Renovation
Progress has been steady with a large amount of sanding already competed. The stage has also undergone some significant changes, and new wrap around staircases are being constructed. We are still on track for complete hand over of the whole project on the first day of Term 4. Thank you for your understanding as we use alternate OSHClub and hall entrances. During the school holidays the renovation will move into the front office and foyer areas. The front of the school will not be accessible during this time. All-access will be via the rear of the school.
New App for School communication
Our school has been undertaking a process to streamline our website, newsletter and communications with one provider. Our new website was launched last year, and our new-look online newsletter launched earlier this year. The final step in this process is to phase in the SZapp as a way of communicating with parents and connecting all these forms of communication. Feedback from some parents regarding communication tools such as Skoolbag have been around too much communication and receiving messages that may not be related to your child. The SZapp addresses some of this feedback as it allows for greater control of notifications for the end-user, allowing you to subscribe to specific groups and receive notifications about content that is more relevant to your family.
From Week 7 this term, we will begin to phase in SZapp with a full change over expected to commence at the beginning of term 4. From weeks 7-10 content will be duplicated across both SZapp and Skoolbag platforms to aide in the switch. SZapp will replace the SkoolBag app, and SkoolBag will not be used after the end of this term.
For more information about the SZapp, please see the following links. If you need any further information, please contact the school.

Parish School Mass
Last weekend we celebrated our Term 3 Parish School Mass. During this Mass, candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation in our Parish were presented. I am sure we will join together as a community to pray for them all as they continue along their faith journey. Confirmation will be celebrated at Holy Trinity on September 17th, and at Saints Peter and Paul on September 19th.
Sunday Gospel: , Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year C
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus tells another parable, this time about a banquet or feast. The message is simple; be humble, and not to assume that we have a higher position or status than others.
This can be a challenging Gospel. It has far reaching Social Justice implications, but also, implications for how we live out day to day lives. Looking at today’s Gospel and hearing Our Lord’s command, ‘Invite the poor, the crippled, to the feast’, how do we respond? Do we freely offer to share our time with people who are not our social equals (or above?) Why not? Jesus assures us, ‘humble yourself and be exulted’.
Youth Ministry at Transfiguration Parish
A message from our Youth Minister, Sarah Pearson:
On the 25th of August, we held Term 3’s first parish youth group (TYG). Ten students from Years 4-6 came. They had the chance to talk about how they can share their faith through their actions and discuss what those actions could be. They then had the chance to have some food and play some games. I encourage all students from Years 4-6 to come along to the next one, it is a great way to connect with your faith, play games and have fun. The next parish youth group will be Sunday 22nd September and I can’t wait to see all of you there!
Dates for your Diary:
Friday 31st August 8:00am – Father’s Day Breakfast, followed by a Prayer Celebration led by 2M
Tuesday 10th September – Stole Night for Confirmation Candidates, held at Holy Trinity, Curtin.
Thursday 12th September – Retreat Day for Confirmation Candidates, held at Holy Trinity, Curtin.
Tuesday 17th & Thursday 19th – Sacrament of Confirmation at 7:00pm
Blessings for the week ahead,
Stephanie Burns
Religious Education Coordinator (Acting)

Literacy Update
Thank you for helping make Literacy Day a huge success! From the creative Book Parade costumes to the delicious cupcakes for our reading picnic and the support from parents and friends in attendance. It was an enjoyable day full all things reading, writing and speaking. If you haven't already, please see our social media page for photos of our celebrations.
This week, 1M invited me into their classroom to share their most recent published stories. I heard of amazing superheroes saving their friends, pets and the world from various villains and dangerous situations. We discussed their use of titles, adjectives, punctuation, paragraphing and onomatopoeia to engage the reader. I have included some photos below and will share more of 1M's work on Facebook shortly.
Stay tuned for future classroom visits to celebrate the wonderful reading and writing happening across our school!
Thank you,
Tegan Butler

My Body, My Life presentation for Year 5/6 students.
A team from the Archdiocese will be coming to Saints Peter and Paul Primary School on the evening of Monday 9 September 2019, from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm to present the My Body, My Life Puberty and Personal Development Program to our Year 5 and 6 students and their parents. The program is pitched at a level appropriate for 10 - 12 year olds and consistent with a Catholic understanding of the dignity of every human person and the dignity of human sexuality. Children must be accompanied to the evening session by their parent or guardian. Both or either parents are strongly encouraged to attend, and it’s great if a parent of the same gender can be present as they have been through the changes themselves. Boys and girls will be separated for this presentation so if you have both a boy and a girl in this age group, a parent or guardian will need to be present with each child. The parent/child evening session includes opportunities for the child and their parent or guardian to work together on fun, non-threatening activities while also being introduced to the same information and vocabulary regarding these topics for further discussion at home. Topics covered in the evening program will include:
- Changes during puberty: physical, emotional, social
- Personal hygiene: skin, hair, cleanliness
- Reproductive systems: growth, development, changes and experiences
- Human conception
- Mood changes and mental health
- Respecting yourself and others
- Cyber Safety
- Talking to trusted adults
