Dear Parents and Carers
Sports News
Last Wednesday the PSSA Cross Country Carnival was held. We had a number of children attend and many of them progressed to the next round and did particularly well. Congratulations to Alice A, Josie A, Noah G, Ciara G, Xavier H, Anna S, Ben S, Hamish S, Kiera S, Ava T, Zoe T and Isabel W for progressing to the A.C.T. Championships. I thank all students for their participation and efforts. Last Friday we held our annual Athletics Carnival at Woden Park. My thanks to Mary de Smet for organising an excellent carnival and to the many parents who volunteered and assisted on the day. It was an excellent day and all children participated very well, showed very good sportsperson ship and clearly enjoyed themselves. In Futsal news, a team of our Year 6 boys, Tareq, Nick, Marly, Michael, Ben, Oscar, Henry and Noah, participated in the A.C.T. Championships on Monday and won every game, scoring an amazing 78 goals. The boys had only one goal scored against them. After this extraordinary effort, the boys will travel to Brisbane to participate in the National Championships. My thanks to the parents for their great support and to Mohammed for coaching the boys. Finally, in an individual effort, Ewan in Year 6, has been chosen to represent the ACT to play tennis in the Australian Teams Championships, which is being held on the Gold Coast. Well done Ewan, this is a great achievement. I am very proud of all of our students and their efforts.
We have also heard that a former student, Habibat Ogunbanwo, is a qualifier in swimming for this year's Olympics. She will be swimming for her home country, Nigeria. What an amazing acheivement.
Confirmation
Last weekend, students in Year 6 who are making their Confirmation participated in one of the Presentation Masses on Saturday night or Sunday morning. My thanks to Fron Garrett-Rumba, Paul Jenkins and Sarah Kennelly for their work with the students, and of course to Fr John Woods and the parish team for their support. Our Confirmation candidates receive the Sacrament next week, on either Tuesday or Wednesday evening. My thanks to all parents for their support. The Presentation Masses followed on from the Confirmation Retreat Day, which was held last Thursday, in partnership with students and staff from Holy Trinity School. Again, my thanks to our excellent teachers for their work for the students.
Parent-Teacher Conference
A reminder that parent/teacher conferences are being held next week, over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with Thursday being the evening conferences. Please book in a time to see your child’s teacher. The conferences are particularly important this year, as the reports will not have comments on them, due to technical issues with the new reporting format. Reports will go home, via the new platform Compass, on Wednesday of Week 10 (June 23rd). Bookings for the conferences can be made via Compass.
School Photos
School photo day is Friday, 18th June. Photo order forms for online ordering were distributed to the students yesterday. These forms do not need to be handed back. The forms are pre-named and issued with a shoot key for each individual student which will match up with their online order.
Family/Sibling Order Forms are available for collection from the front office. A discount applies for families with 3 or more children, after purchasing individual packs for EACH child a siblings presentation pack of your choice will be free.
All students are to wear their full school uniform, with jumpers, as class photos will be taken outdoors this year (weather permitting). Individual class photos will be taken indoors.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns
Principal
Gospel Reflection
In this Gospel passage Jesus likens the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed that grows into an abundant tree. The Kingdom of God is not a place but a way in which the world operates. It is a kingdom that is ruled by justice and gives precedence to those who are regarded as nothing in the world. It is a kingdom of promise and hope that inspires and calls all people to more than they currently are. It is like the seed that almost magically transforms into a fully grown plant that may be harvested – apparently without any external forces. Of course, we know that plants need to be fed, watered, weeded and nurtured to ensure their proper growth. However, the Kingdom of God works in our lives in a similar way – if we feed and nurture it, the kingdom will produce a great harvest. Even if we don’t pay it attention, the kingdom is present and acting in our world.

Confirmation
We thank our Year 6 families and members of the community who attended a Confirmation Presentation Mass on the weekend. It was lovely to celebrate the Eucharist together as a community.
Upcoming Confirmation Events
The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next week at 6:00pm. We ask all Candidates to arrive at 5:30pm. Please keep these students in your prayers.

Saints Peter and Paul Athletics Carnival
A huge thank you to all of the parents and carers and St Edmund’s students who helped out at our carnival last Friday. We would not have been able to run the day without you! A big thank you also goes to all of the staff for everything they did to help make the day a success. Last, but definitely not least, congratulation to all the students for their positive participation in all of the events throughout the day.
Holding this carnival enables us to select students to represent our school at the South/Weston Region Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 18th August. Students who are turning 8 and over this year may be considered for representative selection. Information in relation to students who have qualified for this carnival and parents/spectators attending the regional carnival will be shared with you when it becomes available to us.

All students in Years 3-6 will be participating in Volleyball clinics every Wednesday for the remainder of this term. One of our coaches is Mikaela Stevens, from the Australian Women’s Volleyball Team. We hope that all the students enjoy learning some new skills.

SOMETHING FUN TO DO WITH YOUR KIDS
With this cold snap we are having this week, perhaps the best thing to do is to stay inisde, snuggle down on the couch with a blanket and a book, watch a family movie, play board games, do a jigsaw puzzle, cuddle in front of a cosy fire with a mug of hot chocolate ....... stay warm.

SSACT Trials
The process for registering your child for an ACT sport trial can be found below. If you need any assistance registering your child, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will hopefully be able to help you out. If you find that there are any steps missing within this process, please let me know at your earliest convenience.
SSACT Registration Process
School Sport ACT now collects all registration information online – this is to prevent the movement to and fro of a paper note and have all information readily available to officials prior to the trial. As this process incurs a fee for data storage, system maintenance and admin, a small fee payment via credit card will be required.
How to register a Student with School Sport ACT.
- Go to the School Sport ACT website schoolsportact.org.au
- Go to Register (top right corner of the homepage) and create an account.
- After completion, check your registered email to verify your account. (Always check your spam folder in case you didn't immediately receive the verification email).
- After verifying your account, Log In (top right hand corner of the homepage) using your registered email and password.
- You’ll be presented with your Parent Dashboard. From there you can start the process of registering a Student into a Trial.
- Click the green Add Student
- Complete all of the information required for your Student (e.g. Medical Details, Sport, Playing History, Preferred Position, School etc.) and save the information. (If your child is already in the system, please ensure that your child’s school is up to date in your profile.)
- Click on the trial information box and then click on the register to trial link.
- Make the small credit card payment. After payment your Principal/School Approver will receive an email for their approval to trial.
You will be able to see the process has been complete back in My Profile – once your Principal/School Approver has completed the approval process your child’s information will be collated onto a list for the Team Manager and Coach prior to trial.
