Dear Parents and Carers
Boorowa Netball and Touch football
Last Friday, approximately 60 students attended the Boorowa Netball and Touch Football Carnival, with parents and some past students also in attendance. It was an excellent day and the students participated very well in what was an enjoyable community event. My thanks to the many parents and past students who assisted with coaching and managing the teams, and to the teachers and staff who attended on the day. Special thanks to Mr. Gubler who coordinated our involvement on the day.
2025 Intentions
Sts Peter and Paul are in the final stages of organising staffing for 2025. If you are aware that your child will not be at school next year, but have not yet informed the front office, I would ask please that you let the school know as soon as possible, for administration reasons. Thank you for your support.
Class Lists
Shortly, teachers will begin the process whereby students are asked to nominate 3 friends they would like to have with them in class next year. One of those friends is guaranteed by the school to be with your child next year. If you have any concerns around class placement for next year, I would ask that you email me directly at cameron.johns@cg.catholic.edu.au
World Teacher Day
Today and Friday we are celebrating World Teacher Day (we are holding it over two days due to the days that some teachers and staff work) and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the excellent staff who work so hard for the school and the wider community. I am very fortunate to be principal of a school that has such a committed and talented group of people working for the students. My thanks as well to the Community Council, who are hosting Wednesday’s lunch for the staff, on behalf of the wider parent body.
Crazy Sock Day
A reminder that this Friday is Crazy Sock Day. Students are invited to wear the oddest and loudest socks to school, and to bring in a gold coin donation to school to help raise money for the St Vincent de Paul and their Christmas appeal. My thanks to our acting Religious Education Coordinator, Sarah Walsh, for coordinating this event.
Kindergarten Orientation Day and Information Night
A reminder that next Tuesday we are holding our Kindergarten Orientation Day for 2025, at school, from 9.30am until 12pm. Our 2025 students will be grouped in one of two groupings (classes), with one of next year’s Kindergarten teachers. On the same day, at 6pm, we are holding our Information Night for parents of next year’s Kindergarten classes.
Have a wonderful week with your families.
Best wishes
Cameron Johns

Social Justice - Crazy Sock Day Socktober Catholic Mission - This Friday!
Social Justice is defined by the Catholic Church as, “the respect for the human person and the rights which flow from human dignity.’ Catholic Social Justice teaches that all people are made in the image of God and possess an equal worth, and that each person has a right to all that is needed to allow him or her to live their full potential as intended by God.
This year, we are supporting Catholic Mission by participating in Socktober. Socktober 2024 will contribute vital funds to projects around the world, including Mongolia, where the Don Bosco Caring Center is providing hope, education, protection and guidance for young children.
On Friday 1st November, students are able to participate in Socktober in two ways:
- Wear ‘crazy socks’ and ‘sock it’ to poverty. Students are invited to wear crazy socks and make a gold coin donation.
- Kick goals for poverty. Could you score a goal against a teacher? Students are invited to donate additional gold coin/s and try to score a goal.
As a community, let’s join together to help Catholic Mission bring hope and dignity to people in need. Thank you.
Presence of God - Year 1 Mini-Retreat
Tomorrow (Thursday October 31st) our Year 6 Youth Ministry Team will run a mini-retreat morning for our Year 1 students. This retreat is a high impact student formation experience that invites students into a personal response to who God is. This retreat will build on students’ knowledge of God’s presence and action in the lives of individuals and communities, how people live safely and happily in community and loving relationships with God, and how people can use God’s gift of freedom to make choices to show respect for the dignity of others. Thank you to our Youth Ministry Officer, Olivia Brown, for her support of our Year 6 students as they prepare to lead this retreat.
Gospel - Mark 12:28-34
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)
The wise scribe asks Jesus which is the greatest commandment
Generally, in the gospels, the scribes are shown as antagonistic towards Jesus and when we begin this passage we may be expecting a trap being laid by the scribe. In Jewish tradition, a lot of teaching occurs through a question and answer style and often the question is related to a particular teaching from Torah. Here, the scribe approaches Jesus as a teacher, a rabbi, and poses a question just as he would to any other worthy teacher. He asks which of the commandments Jesus regards to be foremost. This could be an opening question to any teacher and one would expect it to be the start of a long conversation. Neither of the commandments Jesus quotes come from the Ten Commandments with which we are most familiar, but, rather, they come from other parts of Torah (the Law). His qualification of the first commandment – to love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength – is a way of capturing the whole person. What Jesus is saying is to love God completely and utterly with your whole person. Then he follows up and adds another commandment – ‘You must love your neighbour as yourself.’ The scribe agrees with Jesus’ teaching and adds that these are far more important than offering sacrifice. This is a pretty controversial statement from a scribe! Sacrifice has been the official form of prayer practised in the Temple for a very long time and he suggests that love of God and love of neighbour are far more important! It is because of this understanding about the priority of love over religious practice – the hallmark of the kingdom of God that Jesus proclaims – that Jesus pronounces the scribe to be ‘not far from the kingdom of God.’

A WORD FROM OUR SCHOOL LEADERS
Year six have been busily working away, planning Market Day. This event will be held on Friday of Week 5, the 15th of November. Market Day, for those of you who don’t know, is a tradition where the Year Six students make market day stalls with fun games, prizes and yummy treats, all of which can be purchased. The proceeds for this fun event go to the Catholic Mission Month, 2024. We hope you are as excited as we are. To participate in these activities, we are asking that a donation be made via QKR! which will be exchanged for tickets on the day
So don’t forget, Friday of Week 5, come and have lots of fun!
Indie G (on behalf of the Year 6 students)
What an exceptional day our students had at Boorowa last Friday! It was wonderful to see such outstanding sportsmanship demonstrated by all of our teams in both Netball and Touch Football. All students enjoyed the day thoroughly! A huge thank you to the many parents, carers and past students who attended to support our students and those who volunteered their time to work with a team on the day. We would not have been able to do it without you! My thanks in particular to Miss Bridget Pigram and Miss Maddi Mertz who accompanied the students, and to Mr Noah Ryan and Mr Josh de Jongh who also attended to support our students.
If you ever have any questions about anything related to Sport, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Luke Gubler (luke.gubler@cg.catholic.edu.au) and hopefully I will be able to help you out!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Kirstyn L, 2M, who attended the SATD Australiasian Championships in Sydney. Competitors came from NSW, ACT, QLD, and VIC. Last week in the kitchen was fun and best of all, the Gnomes from Floriade made it home! They are now settled back into Sts Peter and Paul’s garden and looking fab!!
In Garden Club we have put some seeds in egg cartons and will be planting these in the next few weeks.
The children are learning about labels in the classroom and have been a little surprised at how much sugar is in some foods.
For more information on the kitchen garden program please email katherine.birch@cg.catholic.edu.au
