Dear SPP families,
This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to use their power, their words and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us.
When it comes to reconciliation, we can all contribute to collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. I offer this prayer, adapted from Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Victoria.
God of Love and Justice,
We pray that our leaders act in the interests of all the people in this land, that they walk the talk of reconciliation.
We pray for those who still suffer sadness because of the government policies of the past. May they be healed by us walking the talk of your Gospel command to love.
God of Love and justice, help us to learn the message of justice taught by Pope Francis who has instructed us to go out. Go out and share... go out and interact with our brothers and sisters, go out and share, go out and ask.
Lord, come walk with us towards peace and reconciliation.
Amen
School-wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB)
You may remember we began a School-wide Positive Behaviour project last term. This involved a group of eight students from Kinder to Year 6 working together to re-vision and re-write our school rules. The industrious students, supported by Mr Gereis, Mrs Halis-Pratt, Mrs DeJongh and Ms Gill, decided they wanted the expectations for behaviour to be positively phrased and fair for all. They did a brilliant job.
Yesterday, our School-wide Positive Behaviour teaching team spent the day working with Tegan Ingold, our wonderful Community Council chair, to continue to define our student-written Positive Behaviour Expectations. I thank Tegan, Amanda DJ, Josh, Lisa and Sam for their generosity, wisdom, and enthusiasm. Here is a sneak peek at the rules revamp:
At Sts Peter and Paul, we are all SainTS - Succeeding Together Safely.
Succeeding
Succeeding means trying your best, having courage, and embracing challenges.
Together
Together means welcoming, supporting, and valuing everyone.
Safely
Safely means responding with respect.
The next step in this project will be to work once again with our student team to develop images, actions, and common language to promote a shared understanding of these expectations here at Sts Peter and Paul school. Our official SWPB launch later this year will be accompanied by explicit class teaching programs and ‘Try This at Home’ suggestions for our parent community.
Tomorrow’s Athletics Carnival
We are looking forward to our annual Athletics Carnival tomorrow, Thursday, June 1st. We are very grateful to Miss Walsh and Mr Gubler who have been working hard to plan an action-packed day for all of our students. We look forward to seeing many of you at Woden Athletic Park, cheering on our athletes and supporting this wonderful event. I know Miss Walsh is incredibly pleased with the number of parents volunteering to help. Thank you for generously giving your time to support this event. There are plently of spots in the parent race!
Tell Them From Me - Parent Survey
The Tell Them From Me® Survey is an evaluation system for measuring student engagement, well-being, classroom climate, and other factors known to affect learning outcomes. Information is captured from students, parents and teachers to inform school policy and practice.
Please take the time to reflect upon and answer the survey questions. Based on this survey data, we can make changes to help improve our students’ experience at school. The survey window is open until 9 June 2023 (Term 2, Week 7)

Visit – Director of Catholic Education
On Friday, Mr Ross Fox, the Director of Catholic Education, visited our beautiful school. He was treated to a tour by two of our student leaders, William and Anna, who did a wonderful job showcasing our school. Mr Fox enjoyed his morning and was impressed by all he saw in our thriving learning community.
Compass Notifications
You may notice a new attendance feature in our Compass app. If a child is marked absent on a class roll without explanation, parents will be sent an automated Compass notification seeking an absence approval. Class rolls are usually marked by 9:15am.
If your child arrives at school late, please sign them in at the front office on our Compass kiosk.
Hats off
A reminder that the July is 'Hats Off' month. Students are not requird to wear a hat when outside.
Flamenco Workshop
On Friday 2 June, Year 4 will participate in a Flamenco Workshop. Thank you to Senora Johnson for organising this fun activity.
Thank you for your warm wishes and encouragement as I step into the shoes of our fearless leader for the remainder of the term. I am very well supported by our outstanding staff, especially Veronica Hall, Fron Garrett and Amanda Basedow. We wish Cameron a wonderful and well-deserved break.

Sunday Gospel: John 3:16-18 Sunday Year A
God sent his Son to save the world through him.
Gospel Reflection
The readings selected for Trinity Sunday provide an opportunity to reflect on the nature of God. Over recent weeks, we have celebrated the Ascension and Pentecost – both of which reveal something about the nature of God through Jesus and the Spirit. Trinity Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate the unity of God whom we acknowledge as Father, Son and Spirit. Today’s gospel reminds us that there is a seamless continuity between the different experiences of God. Although we sometimes regard the God of the Old Testament as judging and vengeful, today reminds us that God is, was, and always will be a God of love. The gospel reminds us that ‘God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son.’ Love is the characteristic of God that is experienced as Father, Son and Spirit. God loved the world into being and loved the people so much that God made a covenant relationship with them and repeatedly drew them back into that relationship when they strayed. God loved the world and the people so much that God became physically present through Jesus as yet another attempt to draw all people into an awareness of the loving relationship God desired for them. When Jesus could no longer remain a physical presence in the world, God’s Spirit became more evident to continue the work of drawing people into that loving relationship with God.
Rather than focusing on the mystery of the Trinitarian God, today is an opportunity to marvel at the single-mindedness of God who is so determined to reveal the length and breadth of God’s love to us. That revelation has been made manifest in different ways throughout time but remains constant and unchanging.

Sts Peter and Paul Athletics Carnival
Tomorrow sees our school’s Athletics Carnival taking place! Students from K-6 will be walking to the Woden Athletic Track from school by 9:15am, so please ensure that your child is present at school on time. All students will need to wear their sports uniform and runners. On the day, children may wear a house colour t-shirt instead of their school sport shirt if they would like. (If you’re not sure what your child’s house colour is, please ask their teacher. The houses and colours they represent are; Red – Cooyal, Yellow – Bangalong, Green – Iraga and Blue – Talara).
Children will need to apply sunscreen before coming to school and bring their hat and drink bottle with them to Woden Athletic Park. If your child/ren would like to make posters and bring mascots to support their house, they are most welcome to. However, we kindly ask that no crepe paper, streamers or glitter be used when creating these.
Please ensure that your child brings with them lots of food to keep them sustained throughout the day as Mrs Lauretta Raccosta will only be providing limited over the counter foods with cash.

This week Kinder and Year 1 made apple pies. They practiced their chopping and slicing skills. It was a very fun time and the pies were yummy!!
Garden club was just as fun as we watered and weeded some garden beds. Everything is growing, including the leeks. I think potato and leek soup might be on the menu in a few weeks.
As always if you have any questions email Mrs Katie Birch, katherine.Birch@cg.catholic.net.au
