Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to another school year. I hope and trust that you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday, and it was a time of renewal for you and your loved ones. The children have started back very well, as have the staff, and we are all looking forward to another very good year of learning.
Apart from our two new Kindergarten classes, we welcome 13 new students from Grades 1 – 6. I welcome the following families, all of them new to Sts Peter and Paul:
Arce, Buchanan, Brewer, Centenera, Cole, Conley, Connley, Dawson, Dobbs, Fenton, Ghalib-Hobbs, Harley, Hedjazi, Lewis, Lin, Mangos, Mare, Martin, Mulemena, Neit, Patun-Og, Phiri, Ratlou, Reefman, Robin, Rutledge, Shrestha, Susan George, Thomas, Van Der Griend, Walkom, Wenn
Whether new or returning, I welcome back all of our families, students and staff.
Meet and Greet Night
Next Monday night, at 6pm, we will gather in the hall for a ‘Meet and Greet’ night. Following a short presentation from me, during which the staff will be introduced, parents will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers outside, at a ‘booth’, and establish the relationship so essential between home and school. Parents will also receive a Term Overview and Letter, which will provide valuable information for the term ahead. I look forward to seeing you there on the night.
Reconciliation Information Night
Next Tuesday night, at 6pm, there is an Information Night for parents of children in Year 3 who are making their First Reconciliation. The Information Night will be conducted online. Fr John will be joined by Emily Capper and Veronica Hall, our RECs from Holy Trinity and Sts Peter and Paul, respectively. It is important that all parents of children who are receiving the sacrament this year attend the meeting.
Year 6 Camp
In other exciting news, our Year 6 students are going on their school camp in two weeks. Like last year’s Year 6 students, our 2023 Year 6s will go to Borambola Sport and Recreation camp, near Wagga Wagga. It is an excellent camp, and our students will have a very good experince. I look forward to joining our students on camp.

Have a wonderful week with your families and I look forward to catching up with many parents in the coming days.
Best wishes

Sunday Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16, Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year A
Salt of the earth, light of the world.
This Sunday’s gospel passage is one that is commonly quoted and well known. Jesus says “‘You are the salt of the earth…Today, when we describe a person as being the ‘salt of the earth’ it’s generally meant in a way that says the person is hard working, straight talking and pretty down to earth. It’s usually meant as a compliment but sometimes this can come across as a bit condescending when used inappropriately. When Jesus tells the disciples that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world he is really saying, ‘You are to be the salt of the earth; you are to be the light of the world.’ It is more of a directive than an affirmation of them.
To be salt of the earth and light of the world means to be the one who puts their hand up and steps forward to speak for, work for and act for those who are the least in this world. (Adapted from Greg Sunter)
Staff Spirituality Retreat Day
On Tuesday 24th January, all staff members attended a Staff Spirituality Day at the Parish Centre in Curtin. The day was inspired by Pope Francis’ call for Synodality. Synodality is about walking together in a shared search for Christ in scripture, prayer, and common life. We used the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-3) biblical passage to inspire, to inform and to nurture our relationship with God and each other.

Welcome to 2023 in the kitchen garden news. We hope you had a safe, enjoyable and hopefully a little bit relaxing holiday!!
Our team plans to have lots of exciting things to do this year starting in Term 1.
Years 1 and 2 will be learning about the kicthen and healthy eating. Both years will also be doing their health unit in the classroom so they can bring their newly discovered knowledge to cooking each week.
Kinder will also have a small turn but not until later in Term 1.
Our garden club will be starting up this week – Friday lunch after eating time. We will introduce our new Environment Leaders to their responsibilities and do some cleaning up (the weeds have gone crazy) and planting.
During the holidays I also started my own vegie garden – just spinach and parsley in pots!! They are growing and my family is enjoying the produce. Being part of a productive and edible garden is very rewarding and exciting, so please encourage your child to come along if you think they may be interested.
If you would like any other infomration about the Kitchen Garden Program please email Mrs Katie Birch katherine.birch@cg.catholic.edu.au.

Cyclabilities Balance and Glide |
AUA’s Cyclabilities program has been designed by Allied Health Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists and teachers so all children have the opportunity to develop skills and confidence to ride a bicycle which provides children with their first taste of mobile independence. At Cyclabilities Balance and Glide, we build spatial-awareness, dynamic balance skills and learn to cycle through individualised one-on-one targeted, individualised support. The program is made up of progressive learning experiences with fun ways to learn to cycle. This program supports children of all abilities and is a foundation for cyclists of the future. Cyclabilities On the Pedals/Out the Gates |
On the Pedals Program is for the next adventure for participants that can cycle independently without training wheels. Through fun interactive and evidence-based games in a traffic-free environment, children make friends, develop at their own pace, and build confidence to ride safely in the community. Our instructors will then lead riders up and down hills, along bike paths and create journeys, to experience "real" cycling.
